The transfer portal was always going to be leaned on heavily by Darian DeVries this offseason. Indiana's graduating class from Year 1 of the DeVries era accounted for nearly 78% of the minutes played and 84.1% of the scoring. Add in the fact that six other Hoosiers are testing the portal waters, and DeVries is essentially building IU's roster back up from scratch.
The first week of the portal was relatively quiet for Indiana, but DeVries has landed four transfer commitments this week. So far, Indiana's portal class consists of shooting guard Jaeden Mustaf from Georgia Tech, guard Darren Harris from Duke, point guard Markus Burton from Notre Dame and center Samet Yigitoglu from SMU.
Roster overhaul: 2026 Transfer Portal tracker for Indiana Hoosiers basketball
Those moves have given the Hoosiers some clarity on what next year's roster will look like, but there is still work to be done. DeVries' roster overhaul is far from complete, and more moves could be coming soon. Here are a few that would make sense.
Aiden Sherrell, PF (Alabama)
Alabama star power forward Aiden Sherrell has been linked to Indiana for the past several days. He visited Bloomington over the weekend, and the stars could be aligning for the Hoosiers to land him. According to Jeff Goodman, Indiana is the favorite to land Sherrell following his visit to Bloomington a few days ago.
Sherrell is ranked as the No. 12 overall player and No. 5 power forward in the portal according to 247Sports. He owns a solid 6'11" 255-pound frame and averaged 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 53.9% from the floor this past season. He is also a great rim protector, as he finished 2nd in the SEC with 2.2 blocks per game. Indiana lacked a true rim protector last season, and Sherrell's skill set could be a great complement to Yigitoglu's game in IU's front court next season.
Rowan Brumbaugh, PG (Tulane)
Tulane guard Rowan Brumbaugh could be a solid addition for DeVries and the Hoosiers this week. His name was linked to the Hoosiers when the portal first opened, but thing have been quiet since. UCLA is also showing a strong interest, so if DeVries wants to defeat Mick Cronin and the Bruins in the race for Brumbaugh, the time is now.
Brumbaugh paced Tulane and ranked 2nd in the American scoring 19.2 points per game this season en route to earning All-American Conference Second Team honors. He shot 45.2% from the floor, 36.0% from three, and owns a career free throw percentage of 80.6%. He is ranked as the No. 18 point guard and the No. 77 overall player in the portal by 247Sports. Needing as much scoring depth as possible, Brumbaugh could make for a great fit in DeVries' system.
