The college basketball transfer portal is now open, and more than 1,500 players across the country are looking for new opportunities. With the vast majority of the production from this past season gone, Darian DeVries and executive director of basketball Ryan Carr have a lot of work to do for the Indiana Hoosiers.

No portal additions have been made just yet, but that could change quickly as players in the portal can commit to a new team at any time.

As DeVries and the Hoosiers continue evaluating and recruiting through the portal, here are two possible portal commits that could be coming to Bloomington this week.

Colby Garland, PG (San Jose State)

Colby Garland is seems like an ideal fit in Bloomington for many reasons. The 6'0" 190-pound point guard can do a little bit of everything, as he averaged 20.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game this past season for San Jose State. For his efforts, he earned Third Team All-Mountain West honors. He is ranked as the No. 58 overall player and the No. 13 point guard in the portal according to 247Sports.

Indiana is losing its top-5 scorers from this past season, meaning DeVries needs to find players who can score in a wide variety of ways. Garland fits that bill, as he shot 49.0% from the field and posted a three-point percentage of 37.2% this season.

Garland is also extremely familiar with DeVries. He played for DeVries at Drake during the 2023-24 season, and averaged 5.7 points per game as a true freshman. He also brings a wealth of experience to the table with 92 collegiate games and 57 starts under his belt. DeVries has shown that he values experienced mid-major players in the portal, and given his previous connection to Garland, it wouldn't be surprising to see a reunion coming soon in Bloomington.

Rowan Brumbaugh, PG (Tulane)

Going along with the theme of needing plenty of scoring, Tulane guard Rowan Brumbaugh could be a solid addition for DeVries and the Hoosiers. Brumbaugh led the Green Wave and ranked second in the American scoring 19.2 points per game this season and earned All-American Conference Second Team honors. He shot 45.2% from the floor, 36.0% from three, and owns a career free throw percentage of 80.6%.

Brumbaugh redshirted at Texas in 2022-23 before spending the 2023-24 season with the Georgetown Hoyas. He then spent the last two seasons in New Orleans with Tulane, and is now in the portal for third time. The Washington, DC native is ranked as the No. 17 point guard in the portal, but could also bring some versatility as a shooting guard.

There are early rumblings of Brumbaugh being linked to Indiana, and if he does in fact head to Bloomington, DeVries and company would be getting one of the best pure scorers in the portal.
