We are now less than 24 hours away from one of the biggest commitment decisions in Indiana football history.
5-star WR Monshun Sales, who hails from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, is set to announce his commitment on Friday, July 17 at Noon ET live on The Pat McAfee Show. Indiana has been in the mix since the very beginning, and is competing with the likes of Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, and LSU for his services.
Indiana Football's 5 biggest wins on the recruiting trail over the past decade
If Sales ends up choosing the Hoosiers, it would be historic for several reasons. Most notably, the Hoosiers have never landed a 5-star high school prospect in program history. Sales can change that on Friday afternoon.
But perhaps more importantly, securing a commitment from Sales would change everything for Indiana football recruiting moving forward.
Indiana going all in for 5-star WR Monshun Sales
Over the years, Indiana has often been an overlooked program when it comes to 4 and 5-star recruits. The top players in the nation have never really given the Hoosiers the time of day, but that has all changed under head coach Curt Cignetti.
Since taking over the program with the most losses in college football history, Cignetti has delivered nothing but elite results. He owns an overall record of 27-2 over his two seasons in Bloomington, and has led the Hoosiers to the College Football Playoff in back-to-back seasons, won a Big Ten Championship, and orchestrated a perfect 16-0 season that culminated in the program's first-ever National Championship. Not too shabby.
That winning culture has put Bloomington on the map for blue chip recruits across the country. When it comes to Indiana's 2027 recruiting class, Cignetti has already secured half a dozen blue chip prospects. EDGE Myles Smith, LB Jalaythan Mayfield, OT Mason McDermott, and DL Reinaldo Lopez are all rated as 4-star prospects by Rivals, while S Brady Scott earned a 4th-star from ESPN last month and WR Branden Sharpe gained 4-star status from 247Sports.
But no recruit will draw more national attention to Indiana's 2027 recruiting class than Sales. He is the type of player you go all in for, and that's exactly what Cignetti and his staff have done.
Indiana has a chance to knock out the Blue Bloods for Monshun Sales
Landing a player of Sales' caliber would signal a major shift in the college football recruiting landscape. Bringing the in-state product to Bloomington would continue to show just how far the Indiana football program has come in such a short amount of time under Cignetti's leadership. It would be a defining win of Cignetti's tenure as he continues to take the IU program to new heights.
Cignetti has already proven he doesn't need a roster full of blue chip prospects to win a national title, but imagine what he could do with 5-star talent. Sales coming to Indiana could open the floodgates for more 5-stars to come to Bloomington down the road, which would sure be exciting to see.
Monshun Sales has a big decision to make—and the answer seems clear
Sales committing to Indiana would be an eye-popping recruiting win that turns heads across the country. Beating out recruiting powerhouses like Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and LSU would show that Indiana's staying power under Cignetti is very real.
Hoosier fans should feel good about their chances to land Sales. Back on May 14, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for Sales to pick Indiana. Furthermore, the Rivals Industry Consensus gives Indiana a strong 78.5% chance to secure a commitment from Sales.
Needless to say, the Hoosier faithful will be tuning in to The Pat McAfee Show with great anticipation on Friday afternoon.
