On Tuesday, Indiana missed out on landing 4-star RB Tre Segarra in surprising fashion. Earlier this spring, Segarra announced that his list of five finalists consisted of Indiana, South Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, and Stanford. But when he made his commitment announcement, none of those five schools were mentioned.

Curt Cignetti has Indiana on the cusp of landing another 2027 blue chip recruit

Instead, Segarra committed to play for Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers. Kiffin and company first extended an offer to the highly-touted prospect less than two weeks ago on June 5, and they were able to land a commitment extremely quickly.

That quick pursuit from LSU has Indiana fans even more nervous when it comes to the high-stakes recruiting battle for 5-star WR Monshun Sales.

LSU poses a serious threat to Indiana's chances of landing 5-star WR Monshun Sales

Sales is ranked as the No. 1 WR and the No. 8 overall player in the 2027 class according to Rivals, making him one of the most coveted recruits in the country who remains uncommitted. He hails from right down the road at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, and Curt Cignetti has the Hoosiers firmly in the mix. In fact, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong has the Hoosiers listed as the current frontrunners in Sales' recruitment.

Earlier this spring, Sales announced his list of five finalists that included Indiana, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and Miami (FL). However, LSU has suddenly entered the race seemingly out of nowhere.

Kiffin and the Tigers did the same thing with Segurra, and were able to secure a commitment in 10 days. LSU presents a major threat in Sales' recruitment, and Hoosier fans are hoping another Segurra-type situation doesn't take place.

According to Wiltfong, Sales will be in Baton Rouge for an Official Visit this week. The move puts even more heat on Indiana -- especially when considering the fact that Sales is an in-state product. Indiana has been the favorite to land Sales in recent weeks, but now that hold is being tested.

A commitment from Monshun Sales would be historic for Indiana

The Hoosiers have never landed a 5-star recruit out of high school. Cignetti has Indiana well-positioned to change that with Sales. The 6'5" 195-pound wideout has been on multiple visits to Bloomington, and his social media is filled with plenty of love for the Hoosiers. Sealing the deal won't be easy, but IU fans have plenty of faith in Cignetti's championship pedigree.

Following his visit to Baton Rouge, Sales is set to visit the Texas Longhorns this weekend. Once that trip is complete, Sales will officially be on commit watch.

Will Sales make history by coming to Bloomington? Or will he go out of state to play for a different program? Only time will tell, but given the ups-and-down roller coaster ride that his recruitment has been so far, anything can happen.
