Spring practice continues to roll along as the Indiana Hoosiers prepare to defend their National Championship title. With the spring game less than two weeks away, Curt Cignetti's roster for 2026 is coming together as a plethora of transfers and incoming freshmen get acquainted with one another on the practice field.

It's also a busy time for recruiting, as the Hoosiers have hosted a large number of prospects throughout spring camp. More visits are scheduled for the coming weeks, and May 15 is shaping up to be a big day for Cignetti and the Hoosiers with 4-star RB Tre Segarra slated to be on campus.

Segarra is ranked as the No. 5 running back in the 2027 class by 247Sports and Rivals Industry, and would be a massive get for IU.

Indiana cracks the list of finalists for top-5 RB Tre Segarra

On Friday, Indiana got some good news when Segarra announced his list of five finalists. According to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, Segarra is choosing between Indiana, South Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, and Stanford.

The 5'10" 205-pound running back was in Happy Valley this past weekend visiting Matt Campbell and the Nittany Lions. His next visit is scheduled for Indiana on May 15. After that, Segarra will visit Stanford on June 5, Tennessee on June 12, and South Carolina on June 19.

Indiana has yet to add a running back to its 2027 recruiting class, and getting Segarra in the mix would be a huge win for Cignetti and the Hoosiers. This past season, he racked up 1,460 yards and 17 touchdowns on 174 carries playing for Byrnes High School in Duncan, SC. He was also effective in the passing game, adding 19 catches for 198 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Along with being the No. 5 running back in the country, Segarra is the No. 2 player in South Carolina and the No. 121 overall prospect in the country according to 247Sports.

If it all works out, Segarra can be the highest ranked running back recruit for Cignetti during his time in Bloomington thus far.
