Official Visits continue to be the talk of the town in the college football world as the top recruits across the country continue to look for their college homes. In Bloomington, the Indiana Hoosiers hosted several top targets this past weekend and landed a commitment from 3-star CB Chris Bradley.
Now, Curt Cignetti has Indiana's 2027 recruiting class featuring a total of 12 players. Indiana's 2027 class is ranked No. 31 in the country by Rivals, but that ranking could improve soon if Cignetti is able to secure a highly-touted prospect in the coming weeks.
Lane Kiffin and LSU could derail Indiana's pursuit of 5-star target Monshun Sales
4-star LB Jalaythan Mayfield has been on Indiana's radar for a long time, and now, IU football fans are excited to see the Hoosiers among Mayfield's list of finalists.
Indiana among 3 finalists for blue chip LB prospect Jalaythan Mayfield
According to Rivals, Mayfield is ranked as the No. 228 overall player and the No. 20 linebacker in the country for the 2027 recruiting cycle. He recently announced his list of finalists, which includes Indiana, Georgia, and Miami (FL). Since his last list of finalists, Mayfield has cut out Kentucky and Oregon from his list of contenders.
Furthermore, the coveted recruit moved his commitment date up to Friday, June 19th.

Mayfield hails from Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton, North Carolina. Last season as a junior, the 6'2" 235-pound prospect racked up 152 total tackles, 125 solo tackles, 6.0 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Entering his senior season, he is poised to set even better markers this fall.
Indiana has all the momentum in the recruitment of 4-star LB Jalaythan Mayfield
As it stands, all the momentum in Mayfield's recruitment seems to belong to Cignetti and the Hoosiers. On3/Rivals' Recruiting Prediction Machine currently give Indiana a strong 90.3% chance to land a commitment from the highly-coveted recruit. Georgia is in 2nd with a 2.3% chance, followed by South Carolina at 1.7% and Miami (FL) at 1.4%.
Mayfield took an Official Visit to Bloomington in April, and he has now taken visits to all of his contenting schools. With his decision date of June 19th quickly approaching, Hoosier football fans could be on the verge of seeing Cignetti land Indiana's 5th blue chip recruit of the 2027 class.
Indiana's current blue chippers include 4-star EDGE Myles Smith, 4-star OT Mason McDermott, 4-star DL Reinaldo Lopez, and 4-star WR Branden Sharpe. With a 2027 recruiting class that is now outside the Top-30 in the national recruiting rankings, securing a commitment from Mayfield would undoubtedly move the Hoosiers up in that ranking.
Indiana's best recruiting class in program history came a few years ago with an overall ranking of No. 25 in the country. With the work Cignetti has already done this offseason, as well as the current standing he has with Mayfield, Indiana could push for its best-ever recruiting class when it's all said and done.
