The college basketball transfer portal opened up on Tuesday, and the Indiana Hoosiers are in the process of scheduling visits.
Earlier this week, Darian DeVries and the Hoosiers secured their first portal visit from Notre Dame guard Markus Burton. An elite scorer, Burton is slated to be in Bloomington from April 12-14.
But before that visit takes place, Indiana has set up another portal visit from Duke guard Darren Harris for Saturday, April 11. Harris is a rising junior who served as a rotation piece for the Blue Devils over the last two seasons. He has familiarity with the Indiana coaching staff, which could play a role in his portal recruitment process.
Duke guard Darren Harris has connections to Indiana's coaching staff
Harris played for Team Takeover, an AAU team that competes on the Nike EYBL circuit, while current Indiana assistant coach Kenny Johnson served as the program's director and head of travel. Team Takeover is the same AAU program that incoming freshman Prince-Alexander Moody played for as well. Furthermore, Harris played at St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax, VA, where Johnson was an associate head coach from 2007-11.
A family connection could bring Darian DeVries and Indiana this guard in the portal
In his two seasons at Duke, Harris appeared in 57 games and averaged 2.8 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. This past season, he averaged 3.3 points and 0.8 rebounds while playing 9.7 minutes per game.
Indiana competing with Virginia for Darren Harris
At this time, Harris has two visits scheduled for the coming days. After he takes his visit to Bloomington on Saturday, Harris is slated to visit the Virginia Cavaliers on Tuesday, April 14.

Coming out of high school, Harris was rated as a 4-star prospect and was ranked as the No. 39 overall player and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia for the 2024 recruiting class. He was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia in 2023-24, and committed to Duke over other offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Georgetown, among others.
Given his strong ties to the state of Virginia, it's not surprising to see Ryan Odom and the Cavaliers on Harris' visit schedule. It will be interesting to see whether IU or UVA stands out the most after his visits, or if other teams enter the mix as well.
At this time, Trent Sisley is the only returning player officially coming back to Bloomington next season. As the transfer portal chaos continues, be sure to follow along using our Indiana Basketball Transfer Portal Tracker.
