Following Michigan's win over UConn in the National Championship game, the college basketball transfer portal is set to open on Tuesday, April 7. Darian DeVries figures to be busy from the jump.

Indiana's graduating class accounted for nearly 78% of the minutes played and 84.1% of the scoring from this past season. Furthermore, Jasai Miles, Jason Drake, and Josh Harris have already announced their intent to enter the transfer portal. That means there will be plenty of new faces donning the cream and crimson for Year 2 of the DeVries era in Bloomington.

Year 1 didn't go as planned, as the Hoosiers went 1-6 down the stretch to crush any hope of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. In the end, IU went 18-13 with a 9-11 mark in Big Ten play during the regular season, and posted a non-competitive one-and-done effort in the Big Ten Tournament with a loss to 15th-seeded Northwestern.

After another underwhelming campaign, Hoosier basketball fans are hungrier than ever for a March Madness run. Thus, DeVries has little room for error heading into the 2026-27 season.

Darian DeVries needs to sign a strong transfer portal class for Year 2 in Bloomington

The transfer portal creates great opportunity for DeVries and his staff to find elite talent to bring to Bloomington. Finding portal success is a huge step in revamping IU's roster for next season.

Former top Indiana target on the market again, and Darian DeVries needs to act

DeVries utilized the portal heavily last offseason, as he targeted experienced players from mostly mid-major programs. DeVries brought in Tucker DeVries from West Virginia, Lamar Wilkerson from Sam Houston State, Reed Bailey from Davidson, Nick Dorn from Elon, Tayton Conerway from Troy, Jasai Miles from North Florida, Josh Harris from North Florida, Conor Enright from DePaul, Sam Alexis from Florida, and Jason Drake from Drexel. The class was ranked as the No. 10 portal class in the country by 247Sports.

Wilkerson paced the Hoosiers and ranked second in the Big Ten averaging 20.9 points per game, but the lack of scoring depth behind him was a major cause for concern. DeVries was the only other Hoosier to average double-digit points per game with 13.7. As it stands, Indiana's top returning scorer, Trent Sisley, averaged just 4.2 points per game.

Indiana also lacked size in the front court, which led to IU ranking 13th in the Big Ten with 32.4 rebounds per game. Furthermore, Indiana ranked dead last in the conference averaging a measly 8.2 offensive rebounds per game. DeVries has already stated that revamping the front court is a top priority this offseason, and getting some size and athleticism for the 4 and 5 positions will be key.

College basketball transfer portal dates to know

The portal will be open for a 15-day period from Tuesday, April 7 to Tuesday, April 21. Players can enter the portal any time in this window, and there is no official deadline to commit to a new team.

With that being said, players must generally be enrolled at their new school in time for summer workouts.

Hoosier fans will be monitoring IU's portal developments closely, so be sure to follow along with our 2026 Indiana Transfer Portal Tracker. It will be updated throughout the spring with each new development.
