With the eye-opening success that the Indiana football program has seen under Curt Cignetti, top recruits in the country now have Bloomington on their radar. There was a time not long ago when 4 and 5-star prospects wouldn't give the Hoosiers the time of day, but it's clear that those times have changed.

3 bold predictions for the rest of Indiana's 2027 recruiting class

Cignetti has already landed commitments from half a dozen blue chip recruits in the 2027 cycle, and more could be on the way soon. However, Cignetti and company suffered a tough recruiting loss on Saturday when a prime 4-star target chose to play his college football north of Bloomington.

4-star LB Roman Igwebuike picks Notre Dame over Indiana

Roman Igwebuike is one of the most coveted defensive prospects in the 2027 recruiting class. Hailing from Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Igwebuike is ranked as the No. 10 linebacker and No. 134 overall recruit in the 2027 class according to the Rivals Industry rankings.

Along with Indiana, other finalists in Igwebuike's recruitment included Missouri and Clemson.

With his commitment to Notre Dame, Igwebuike is set to join a Notre Dame recruiting class that is receiving extremely high praise. The 4-star prospect is the 22nd commit to join Notre Dame's 2027 class, and is the 18th blue chipper to join the mix. Overall, Notre Dame's 2027 class is ranked as the No. 2 recruiting class in the country according to Rivals.

Missing out on Igwebuike stings, and it especially hurts with his decision to head to South Bend. However, Indiana fans shouldn't be sounding the alarm.

Indiana's 2027 recruiting class is still rounding into form

As it stands, Indiana's group of 16 commits in the 2027 cycle make up the No. 29 recruiting class in the country according to Rivals. Adding a blue chipper like Igwebuike to the class would have been nice, but Cignetti and company still have plenty of talent to point to.

Most notably, Indiana's 2027 recruiting class features half a dozen blue chip prospects. EDGE Myles Smith, LB Jalaythan Mayfield, OT Mason McDermott, and DL Reinaldo Lopez are all rated as 4-star prospects by Rivals, while S Brady Scott earned a 4th-star from ESPN last month and WR Branden Sharpe gained 4-star status from 247Sports.

The 2027 cycle is just about wrapped up, but there are still several other top targets who have yet to announce their commitment decisions. Most notably, Indiana is still waiting for a decision from 5-star WR Monshun Sales. Hailing from right up the road at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Sales has been Indiana's top target for quite some time. His list of finalists include Indiana, Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU, but at this point it seems to be a two-team race between Indiana and Texas.

Hoosier fans are feeling good about their chances to keep Sales local, and he would become Indiana's first-ever 5-star high school commit in program history. IU fans are certainly hoping that dream becomes a reality.
