Coming off a perfect 16-0 season and National Championship, the Indiana Hoosiers are now on the recruiting radar of blue chip prospects across the country. Curt Cignetti has an elite eye for talent, and has a knack for putting the right players in the right situations to succeed. Needless to say, it has yielded tremendous results over the course of his two seasons in Bloomington.

3 bold predictions for Indiana's 2027 recruiting class

Indiana's 2027 recruiting class is just about complete, as the class currently features 16 total commits. The group possesses plenty of talent, but adding more depth and possibly more star power is never a bad thing when it comes to college football recruiting. Cignetti and company can continue to raise the standard of Indiana football recruiting over the next several weeks.

Indiana lands a commitment from 5-star WR Monshun Sales

The prospect that all college football fans are following right now is 5-star WR Monshun Sales. The 6'5" 195-pound playmaker is the highest-ranked recruit in the 2027 cycle who has yet to announce his commitment decision. Indiana is firmly in the mix, as Cignetti has used home field advantage when recruiting the star from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.

The Hoosiers are competing with Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and LSU for Sales' services. Beating out those blue blood programs for Sales would be a monster win for Cignetti and the Hoosiers. Sales would be the first 5-star high school commit in Indiana program history, and would be yet the latest history-making move for Cignetti in Bloomington.

1-2 more Indiana commits earn 4-star status

At this time, Indiana's 2027 class features half a dozen players who have reached 4-star status. EDGE Myles Smith, LB Jalaythan Mayfield, OT Mason McDermott, and DL Reinaldo Lopez are all rated as 4-star prospects by Rivals, while S Brady Scott earned a 4th-star from ESPN last month and WR Branden Sharpe gained 4-star status from 247Sports.

Looking ahead, 1-2 more IU commits could possibly earn that coveted 4th star. The player most likely to fit that bill is RB Da'Jon Talley Rhodes, who is Indiana's highest-ranked 3-star commit according to Rivals. Cignetti already has a great mix of blue-chippers in the 2027 class, but adding another 1-2 to the mix would be great to see.

The Hoosiers finish with a Top-20 recruiting class

Over the last four cycles, Indiana's recruiting classes have been ranked 30th, 53rd, 60th, and 59th in the country. As it stands, Indiana's 2027 recruiting class is ranked No. 29 in the country by Rivals. It's a solid ranking, and is currently the best class Cignetti has put together at IU. But with that being said, moving up in the national recruiting rankings is never a bad thing, and the Hoosiers certainly has a chance to do so in the coming months.

Landing Sales plays a vital role in that process, and if Cignetti is able to seal the deal with the in-state product, Indiana would certainly ascend in the recruiting rankings. Indiana's best class in program history came a few years ago in 2022 with a ranking of 25th in the nation. Cignetti has Indiana well-positioned to either tie or break that record, which would be the latest history he's made in Bloomington. There is still work to do, but it's definitely possible.
