Indiana WBB: Zania Socka-Nguemen Selected To 2025 USA Basketball Women’s U19 National Team

Indiana sophomore forward Zania Socka-Nguemen was named Friday to the USA Basketball Women's U19 National Team.

Indiana sophomore forward Zania Socka-Nguemen will represent the United States as she was selected to the 2025 USA Basketball Women's U19 National Team.

The Silver Springs, Maryland native averaged 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 5.1 minutes per game last season for the No. 1 overall seed UCLA Bruins, playing in 16 total games in 2024-25.

Socka-Nguemen was a 2024 McDonald’s All-American and attended Sidwell Friends High School in Washington, D.C. Socka-Nguemen was ranked as a four-star and the 30th overall recruit in the 2024 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings, according to ESPN.

Indiana head women’s basketball coach Teri Moren will be representing the United States women's national team as she is set to coach the U19 National Team.

It is the second-straight year, Moren will lead the U19 women's national team into international competition.

Last summer, Hoosier head coach Teri Moren helped coached the USA U18 Women's National Team to a gold medal in the AmeriCup. In 2022 and 2023, Moren served as an assistant coach for two Gold Medal-winning teams. Her first time coaching the USA Basketball came in 2021 as an assistant coach for the 2021 Women's U19 National Team Trials.

Group play begins July 12 with the Americans playing Korea, Hungary and Israel in Pool A. The USA has won a gold medal in three-straight years and nine of the last 10 events.

Team U.S.A will compete at the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Brno, Czech Republic from July 12-20.

As far as the Indiana Hoosiers women's basketball program finished last season with a 20-13 overall record and 10-8 in Big Ten conference play. IU made sixth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, last season they were a No. 9 seed and defeated No. 8 Utah in the Round of 64. Indiana's season ended against No. 1 South Carolina in the Round of 32.
