According to a report from Sam Amick of The Athletic Mike Woodson may be returning to the hardwood in 2025.

He is a leading candidate to become Doug Christie’s top assistant with the Sacramento Kings.

Doug Christie, who took over the head coaching job on an interim basis after the team fired head coach Mike Brown during the regular season, was named the permanent head coach last month back in March.

This season the Sacramento Kings finished with a regular season record of 40-42 and were eliminated in the play-in tournament.

Former Indiana Hoosiers head coach Mike Woodson announced he was stepping down from his job at Indiana in February at the age of 67 years old. Woodson coached the remainder of the 2024-25 season, finishing the season with a 19-13 record missing the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season.

He coached the Hoosiers for four seasons total and finished with an 82-53 overall record, including a 41-39 record in the Big Ten Conference.  His Indiana teams made the NCAA Tournament twice, producing NBA players like Kel'el Ware, Jalen Hood Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Before he took the job at Indiana in 2021, Woodson coached in the NBA for 25 years most recently with the New York Knicks as an assistant coach.

Woodson was the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks from 2004-2010, with a a 206-286 record. He did lead three playoff appearances including back to back second round appearances of the NBA playoffs.

He has 14 years of experience as an assistant coach, including in 2003-2004 with the championship Detroit Pistons team when Scott Perry was there, as well as in 2020-2021 when they were both with the Knicks.

We will likely hear more about Woodson being finalized as the lead assistant for Doug Christie in the coming days. It'll be interesting to see how they shape up their roster as well and what signings and trades they will make as their window shrinks from what it was just a couple seasons ago.
