The end of May brought a flurry of official visits for the top college football recruits in the country. The most anticipated OV from this past weekend came in the form of 5-star WR Monshun Sales heading down to Tuscaloosa. Sales is one of the most coveted recruits in the nation who is still undecided on his future, and Alabama is working hard to get the inside track back from the Indiana Hoosiers.
On May 14, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for Sales to stay in The Hoosier State and play college football at Indiana. Sales plays high school football at Lawrence North in Indianapolis and Curt Cignetti is puling out all the stops to land the in-state product. Along with being the top player in the state of Indiana, Sales currently ranks as the No. 1 WR and No. 9 overall player in the country for the 2027 class according to 247Sports.
Indiana decommitment saga continues as 4-star prospect scraps visit to in-state rival
Indiana is the frontrunner right now, but Kalen DeBoer and Alabama may be closing the gap after Sales' weekend visit with the Crimson Tide.
Monshun Sales' official visit to Alabama has Indiana fans sweating
While he has strong ties to The Hoosier State, Sales is originally from Alabama and grew up with dreams of playing for the Crimson Tide. He even had the nickname of "Bama" growing up. DeBoer and company made sure to focus on Sales' roots to the Yellowhammer State, and they made sure to pull at his heartstrings over the weekend.
Sales showed Alabama plenty of praise on social media over the weekend. He posted multiple pictures of his endeavors in Tuscaloosa to his Instagram story and X (formerly Twitter) profile.
In an interview with Brett Greenberg of 247Sports following his visit, Sales continued to sing the praises of the Crimson Tide. "It really felt unreal," Sales said to Greenberg. "I grew up in Alabama. I grew up thinking about that all the time, and it was finally there. It was a 'I am here' moment."
But for all the love he showed Alabama, Sales still has Indiana in the forefront of his decision-making process. "I feel like 'Bama and Indiana are my top two schools at the moment," Sales said in his interview with Greenberg.
Indiana and Alabama battle in recruiting showdown for elite 5-star WR Monshun Sales
Now that Sales has taken official visits to both Indiana and Alabama, all fans of the Hoosiers and Crimson Tide can do at this point in time is sit back and wait.
While Indiana and Alabama are the top choices right now, three more teams are also in the mix. With that in mind, it would be a bit surprising to see Sales make a commitment before he visits the rest of his contenders. Looking ahead, Sales will head down to Austin to visit Texas this weekend starting on June 5 before also visiting Ohio State on June 12 and Miami (FL) on June 19.
The Crimson Tide have now made their pitch, and the race continues to heat up from all angles. Alabama appears to have gained some ground, but Cignetti and the Hoosiers have to feel good about where they stand.
