A full weekend of Hoosier athletics is on deck. Indiana teams are gearing up for an exciting slate of action across multiple sports, and have strong opportunities to provide some memorable moments. With plenty to look forward to, there are several major storylines to follow. To get you ready for all the upcoming action, here is a look at the biggest headlines of the week in the world of Indiana sports.
Indiana Football battles Nebraska on the road
The Indiana Hoosiers are set for their toughest test of the season so far in Week 6. Curt Cignetti and company are set to battle the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a matchup between a pair of 5-0 teams. The Cornhuskers have lost 31 consecutive games to Top-25 opponents, and Matt Rhule is 0-9 against ranked teams during his time in Lincoln. Nebraska is desperate for a huge upset, so Indiana has to be prepared.
The Hoosiers are favored by 7.5 points, and have a relatively clean injury report. Playing at full strength, IU fans have plenty of confidence entering this matchup. But with a highly-anticipated contest against Ohio State on the docket for next week, it's imperative that the Hoosiers aren't caught looking ahead. Nebraska is a dangerous team capable of giving Indiana some trouble.
First Indiana Basketball exhibition game of the new season
The new college basketball season is quickly approaching, and the Hoosiers are ready to take the floor. Darian DeVries is set to begin his second season at the helm of the IU program with an exhibition game this Saturday night at Butler. Indiana and Butler have met 55 times in their respective histories, with IU owning a 40-15 advantage in the series. This game won't count toward any official standings or statistics, but it's a good opening contest to prepare for the regular season. Butler is entering a new era under first-year head coach and former Bulldog player Ronald Nored.
It's also a historic meeting between the Hoosiers and Bulldogs. Saturday night's exhibition will mark Indiana's first trip to Hinkle Fieldhouse since 1994. Indiana is 17-9 all-time against Butler at the historic venue. Tip-off is slated to 6:30 p.m. ET. Butler will return the favor with a trip to Assembly Hall next season.
Indiana lands commitment from 5-star prospect Darius Wabbington
Earlier this week, the Hoosiers secured a commitment from 5-star prospect Darius Wabbington. A 6'11" 245-pound center from Phoenix, AZ, Wabbington is ranked as the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 center in the nation for the 2027 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports. His list of offers totaled over 30 programs, and his final contenders came down to Indiana, Illinois, and Arizona. He becomes the first 5-star commit for Indiana in the DeVries era, and joins 4-star guard Chase Branham and international center Felix Kiehlneker in Indiana's 2027 recruiting class. Welcome to Bloomington, Darius!
Men's soccer hosts senior night
The Indiana men's soccer team continues to thrive. The Hoosiers remain unbeaten with an overall record of 10-0-2 to go along with a 4-0-1 mark in Big Ten play. Friday night's matchup against Hanover College will serve as IU's Senior Night, with a total of 12 Hoosiers being honored before the game. Indiana's 2026 class has compiled 48 total victories as well as three Big Ten Championships. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
