5-star center Darius Wabbington commits to Indiana
Wabbington is one of the most coveted prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. He is ranked as the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 center in the nation according to 247Sports. His list of offers totaled over 30 programs, and his final contenders came down to Indiana, Illinois, and Arizona.
Given the competitive and high-profile nature of Wabbington's recruitment process, bringing him to Bloomington is a momentous win for DeVries and his staff. Wabbington becomes the first 5-star commit for DeVries at Indiana, and puts the Hoosiers back at the forefront of college basketball recruiting.
"I'm going to Indiana University and I chose there because the plan they have for me and the trust that the entire organization has in me," Wabbington told 247Sports about his commitment to Indiana. "They're getting someone who's gonna work his tail off day in and day out," Wabbington added.
Owning a 6'10" 245-pound frame, Wabbington is a dynamic athlete who primarily plays center but can handle the ball with guard-like skills. He is a reliable rebounder on both ends of the floor, and can score off the dribble while also knocking down shots from the outside. That athleticism and versatility is exactly what DeVries is looking for. It will certainly be exciting to see Wabbington operate in DeVries' offensive system once he gets to Bloomington.
Indiana's 2027 recruiting class just got a major boost
Wabbington is the third commit to join Indiana's 2027 recruiting class. He is preceded by 4-star guard Chase Branham, who is heralded as the No. 42 overall player in the nation by 247Sports. Branham committed to the Hoosiers last fall on September 20.
Indiana's most recent 2027 commit before Wabbington came last month when 7'1" international center Felix Kiehlneker pledged his commitment to IU on September 15. Kiehlneker hails from Germany, and is one of the top players in his age group. According to Peegs.com, he is heralded as the No. 5 overall prospect in Germany aged 19 or younger.
With Wabbington now in the mix, the Hoosiers now own the 3rd-ranked recruiting class in the country for the 2027 cycle according to 247Sports. Moving forward, hopefully this is the kind of commitment that paves the way for more high-profile prospects to follow. Welcome to Bloomington, Darius!
