Former Hoosier Forward Race Thompson, Joins alumni team Assembly Ball

The Indiana Hoosiers alumni team "Assembly Ball" in the TBT league added recently another former star alum in Race Thompson.

Thompson returns to Indiana after playing with the 2024 squad last season and joins former Hoosiers Yogi Ferrell, James Blackmon Jr., and Troy Williams as the first four roster commitments for the 2025 Assembly Ball team.

Race Thompson spent this past season playing for the Memphis Hustle, the G-League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged 6.7  points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 16.8 minutes per game over a 28 game span.

The former Hoosier and Minnesota native shot 39.6 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from 3-point range and 77.8 percent at the free throw line.

The 6-foot-7 forward is currently playing for Venados de Mezatlan of the Mexican CIBACOPA League. He's played 10 games in the Mexican League so far this season, averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 21.9 minutes per game.

Thompson helped lead the Hoosiers to two NCAA Tournaments in his five seasons at Indiana (2018-23) playing in 130 career games.

Race Thompson didn't play much his redshirt freshman year but in his final three seasons in Bloomington he averaged 9.5 points 6.3 rebounds per game in his final three seasons at Indiana, even earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors during the 2021-22 season.

Notable Indiana alums who played last year included Noah Vonleh, Jordan Hulls, Juwan Morgan, Miller Kopp, Devonte Green, Yogi Ferrell, Troy Williams and Race Thompson.

Assembly Ball, the Indiana alumni team hosting The Basketball Tournament’s (TBT) regional alongside All Good Dawgs (Butler Alumni) at the Hinkle Fieldhouse from July 19-22

The winner of the Indiana Regional will advance to TBT’s quarterfinals on July 29. The semifinals will be held on July 31, and TBT’s $1 million championship will be played on Aug. 3.

For the first time, TBT will give each host team the opportunity to have home court advantage for the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the $1 million championship game. Should two regional hosts face off, the tie breaker will be determined by which host sells 4,000 tickets the fastest. Tickets are on sale now at tbthoops.com/tickets
