The college basketball transfer portal has been open for a week now, and the Indiana Hoosiers have seen plenty of activity. Unfortunately, most of that activity has come in the form of players deciding to enter their names into the transfer portal looking for new opportunities away from Bloomington.

The latest Hoosier to test the portal waters comes in the form of freshman center Andrej Acimovic, who put his name into the portal on Monday afternoon. He is the sixth player from Indiana to enter the portal this offseason, joining Jason Drake, Jasai Miles, Josh Harris, Aleksa Ristic, and Nick Dorn.

Acimovic didn't play this past season, as he took a redshirt during his freshman campaign for developmental purposes.

He is a promising 6'10" center who came to Indiana from Bosnia, and averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the U19 ABA League, which is the top league in the Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia region. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Acimovic's departure puts even more pressure on Darian DeVries to rebuild Indiana's front court for his second season in Bloomington.

Darian DeVries still needs to address Indiana's front court in a major way

So far, Indiana has landed two players through the portal: Georgia Tech shooting guard Jaeden Mustaf and Duke guard Darren Harris. Those are solid additions, but DeVries still has a lot of work to do.

Indiana's graduating class accounted for nearly 78% of the minutes played and 84.1% of the scoring from this past season, and as it stands, Trent Sisley is the only returning player from last year's team. He averaged 4.2 points per game playing just over 13 minutes a night. Mustaf and Harris could make for a great back court combo, but IU's front court needs as much help as it can get.

Before the portal opened, DeVries stated that he was surprised by the size and physicality of Big Ten power forwards and centers. The Hoosiers lacked the size and physicality to compete down low on both ends of the floor, which played a big role in IU missing out on the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive season.

When it comes to rebounding, the Hoosiers finished the regular season ranked 13th in the Big Ten with 32.4 total rebounds per game, and were dead last in the conference with 8.2 offensive rebounds per game. Mustaf is a physical wing who can help improve those numbers, but DeVries needs to find a true center (or two) and/or sizable power forward(s) to control the glass. Those types of players are essential to have on a Big Ten rosters.
