It's been a busy day for Darian DeVries and the Indiana Hoosiers.
Indiana landed its transfer portal commitment of the offseason in the form of Georgia Tech shooting guard Jaeden Mustaf. DeVries then kept the momentum going by adding Duke guard Darren Harris a little over an hour later.
But DeVries didn't stop there.
On Monday evening, Joe Tipton of On3 reported that Indiana has also landed a portal commitment from Notre Dame point guard Markus Burton.

Getting Burton to Bloomington is a significant add for DeVries and the Hoosiers. Burton is one of the top names on the market, as he is ranked as the No. 22 overall player and No. 7 point guard in the portal by 247Sports. He is Indiana's highest-ranked portal addition thus far.
Burton has been one of the top scorers in the ACC over the last three seasons, and figures to replace plenty of the scoring production that Lamar Wilkerson brought to the table this past season.

Markus Burton has tremendous potential in Bloomington
Burton is a 6'0" 190-pound point guard who originally hails from Mishawaka, IN. He was the 2023 Indiana Mr. Basketball, and spent three seasons in South Bend with the Fighting Irish. Appearing in 69 games with 68 starts over that span, Burton emerged into a perennial scorer and one of the ACC's top players.
Indiana commit puts forth record-breaking performance in NorthEast Classic
As a freshman in 2023-24, Burton led all ACC freshman in scoring with 17.5 points per game and earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors. He increased that number to an impressive 21.3 points per game as a sophomore, which led the entire ACC. He also shot 44.2% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc.
Those impressive seasons gave Burton high hopes for his junior season in 2025-26. He was named to the Preseason All-ACC First Team, and was on watch lists for the Naismith Trophy, Bob Cousy Award, and Wooden Award. Unfortunately, his season was cut short after just 10 games due to an ankle injury. He was impressive in those 10 games, putting up 18.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 48.9% from the floor.
He currently has one season of eligibility remaining, but is seeking a medical redshirt for another year of eligibility after playing in just 10 games this past season. He figures to make an immediate and substantial impact for the Hoosiers this fall.
