Darian DeVries two rosters at the helm of the Indiana basketball program have been primarily built through the transfer portal. During his two offseasons in Bloomington, DeVries has had just one total returning player from the previous year's team.
As he continues preparing for his second season with the Hoosiers, DeVries is looking to establish some momentum on the recruiting trail. Indiana's incoming 2026 class features a trio of Top-100 players, and Chase Branham, the lone commit in IU's 2027 class, continues to move up in the national recruiting rankings.
As DeVries remains on the prowl for elite talent to bring to Bloomington, he has extended an offer to one of the top prospects in the 2027 class -- who just so happens to be the son of a former NFL great.
Indiana extends offer to elite 2027 point guard NaVorro Bowman Jr.
On Wednesday, Sam Kayser reported that Indiana has become the latest team to extend an offer to elite 2027 point guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. He is the son of former NFL linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who orchestrated an impressive 8-year NFL career primarily with the San Francisco 49ers.
While his father shined on the gridiron, the younger Bowman is quickly making a name for himself on the hardwood. Bowman Jr. is rated as a 5-star prospect and ranked as the top overall player in the state of California for the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite rankings. Nationally, he is heralded as the No. 5 point guard and No. 17 overall prospect in the country.
Along with Indiana, his list of offers also includes the likes of Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, USC, UCLA, Illinois, Baylor, and Tennessee, among others.

The elder Bowman played college football at Penn State from 2006-09 and was a two-time All-Big Ten First Team honoree. Hoping he wants to follow in his father's footsteps, Penn State head basketball coach Mike Rhoades has also extended an offer to Bowman Jr.
Indiana just landed a huge Official Visit with elite 5-star 2027 big man
Following his playing days at Penn State, Bowman was drafted by the 49ers in the Third Round with the 91st overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. He went on to shine in San Francisco, earning First Team All-Pro honors on four occasions and Pro Bowl honors three times. He ended his NFL career having appeared in 99 games and collecting 798 tackles (585 solo), 14.0 sacks, 29 pass deflections, and 5 interceptions.
It's clear that athleticism runs in the family, as the younger Bowman is among the most coveted recruits in the 2027 college basketball recruiting class. Hailing from Sherman Oaks, CA, Bowman Jr. owns a 6'3"180-pound frame and his elite athleticism and versatility shines through on both ends of the floor.
Bowman Jr. represented the United States U17 National Team earlier this year, and his recruitment only figures to heat up from here. Up next, DeVries and company will be looking to secure an Official Visit from the highly-touted prospect for the fall.
