Now that spring ball has wrapped up, Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers are heavily focused on adding to IU's future recruiting classes.

It's been a bit of a chaotic week for Indiana's 2027 recruiting class. Over the past few days, Cignetti and company have picked up commitments from three players in the 2027 class: 4-star OT Mason McDermott, 3-star WR Branden Sharpe, and 3-star DB Rico Jackson.

However, Indiana suffered a tough recruiting blow with the decommitment of 4-star CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. Torbert was IU's highest-ranked player in its 2027 class, and his departure stings. The ups-and-downs of the past week have Cignetti and his staff hungry for another recruiting win.

One player the Hoosiers remain in hot pursuit of is 5-star WR Monshun Sales. Hailing from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Sales is the type of player who can make or break a recruiting class.

Indiana can make a huge statement by landing 5-star WR Monshun Sales

Sales is one of the most coveted recruits in the entire country. The 6'5" 195-pound wideout is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the state of Indiana and the No. 1 wide receiver in the country according to 247Sports. Furthermore, he is ranked as the No. 7 overall recruit in the nation by the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Those are the types of rankings that garner attention from just about every school in the country.

Indiana has been in pursuit of Sales for a while, as Cigneteti first offered him way back on April 12, 2024. Since then, Sales' list of offers has exceeded 35 schools. The attention is for good reason, as Sales owns an elite skill set that gives him a legitimate chance to be a standout receiver as a true freshman.

247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins describes Sales as "one of the biggest freakshows in the country with his hulking frame and elite athletic markers." Sales has elite speed with quick acceleration and his size and athleticism enables him to make contested 1-on-1 catches. No matter how you slice it, this kid projects to be a star.

Indiana's recent recruiting roller coaster has Hoosier fans paying even more attention to Sales' recruitment. The Hoosiers have to like where they are at, as Rivals' Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for IU to land Sales earlier this month. That is certainly a good sign that Indiana is moving in the right direction, but Cignetti still has plenty of competition for the in-state star.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are Indiana's biggest competition at this point in time. While Sales plays high school football in Indianapolis, his family is originally from Alabama. He was a Crimson Tide fan throughout his childhood and even had the nickname of "Bama" growing up.

Kalen DeBoer and the Tide were the early frontrunner in his recruitment, but that momentum has now shifted to IU. However, there is still work to be done for Cignetti and company.

Sales is set to visit Tuscaloosa on May 29, which undoubtedly will play a huge role in his decision-making process. After that, he will then visit Texas on June 5, Ohio State on June 12, and Miami (FL) on June 19.

If Cignetti is able to hold off the competition and land a commitment from Sales, it would be an overwhelming win for the Hoosiers. Conversely, if the local product chooses to go elsewhere, it would hand Indiana a crushing blow.
