There's no denying the impact that Curt Cignetti has had throughout his time at the helm of the Indiana football program. Cignetti has turned the Hoosiers from an afterthought into a national power in only two seasons, and the program's momentum only continues to build.
After setting a program record by having eight players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, Cignetti has put together a strong offseason on the recruiting trail. Indiana's 2027 recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the program's best, and Cignetti added another historic milestone along the way.
Excitement continues to build around Indiana's 2027 recruiting class
While Cignetti has put a heavy emphasis on the transfer portal during his time at Indiana, high school recruiting remains extremely important in the world of college football. Given his elite winning culture and proven track record of player development, Cignetti has the state of Indiana football recruiting in good hands.
Over the last four cycles, Indiana's recruiting classes have been ranked 30th, 53rd, 60th, and 59th in the country. As it stands, Indiana's 2027 recruiting class is ranked No. 28 in the country by Rivals. Cignetti has secured commitment from 17 total players in the 2027 cycle, and several blue chippers are included in that group.
Highly-regarded 4 and 5-star prospects didn't use to give Indiana the time of day, but it's clear that those days are over. At this time, Indiana's 2027 class features seven players who have reached 4-star status. EDGE Myles Smith, LB Jalaythan Mayfield, OT Mason McDermott, and DL Reinaldo Lopez are all rated as 4-star prospects by Rivals, while S Brady Scott earned a 4th-star from ESPN last month and WR Branden Sharpe recently gained 4-star status from 247Sports.
But no prospect has garnered more attention over the summer than 5-star WR Monshun Sales, who committed to the Hoosiers on Friday afternoon.
Indiana secures first 5-star high school prospect in program history
Before Friday, Indiana had never landed a 5-star high school recruit in program history. Sales changed that by choosing the Hoosiers over other finalists Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, and LSU.

Landing Sales is a monumental win for Cignetti and Indiana for many reasons. Not only did Cignetti keep the Lawrence North star in The Hoosier State, but he beat out the traditional recruiting blue bloods in the process. The win shows that Indiana is now a legitimate recruiting threat to major Power 4 programs that are used to dominating on the recruiting trail.
Sales, a 6'5" 195-pound wideout who collected 37 catches for 794 yards and 9 touchdowns during his junior season, is ranked as the No. WR and No. 7 overall player in the country for the 2027 recruiting class by Rivals. He is the highest-rated IU commit in program history.
Indiana's 2027 recruiting class was already in good shape, but adding to Sales to the mix takes things to another level. All in all, there is a lot to be excited about when it comes to Indiana's group of 2027 commits.
