Indiana football fans are waiting with bated breath to see where 5-star WR Monshun Sales ends up committing. Ranked as the No. 2 WR and No. 8 overall prospect in the country by Rivals, Sales is the highest-ranked 2027 recruit who has yet to announce his commitment.

Sales hails from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, and Curt Cignetti has the Indiana Hoosiers well-positioned to land the in-state product. Indiana's chances look even better when considering the fact that one rival program appears to be fading in the race for Sales' services.

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been heavily involved in Sales' recruitment from the very beginning, and at one point were the favorites to win out. Back in December, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong and Greg Smith logged expert predictions for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama to land Sales. But now, those predictions belong to Cignetti and the Hoosiers while the Crimson Tide are watching their chances to land the coveted prospect dwindle away.

Recruiting experts aren't giving Alabama much of a chance in the Monshun Sales sweepstakes

Indiana seems to have a substantial edge over Alabama in Sales' recruitment. Earlier this week, Wiltfong made it clear that his sources no longer have Alabama in the mix. According to Wiltfong, Sales' top contenders are currently Indiana and Texas.

Texas has been involved in the Sales Sweepstakes for a while, but has never really been considered a frontrunner. However, Sarkisian and his staff have made big gains in recent weeks, and Sales has shown the Longhorns plenty of love on social media. Nothing is set in stone, but at this point in time it seems that Texas may have taken Alabama's spot in the closely-followed recruiting race for Sales.

Indiana gains edge over Alabama in recruitment of Monshun Sales

Sales' first official visit of the spring was to Indiana, and his second one was to Alabama in late May. The two schools have been battling in a heated recruiting race, but Indiana taking the lead at this point in time is a significant development.

Why Indiana's recruiting future is brighter than the Big Ten rankings indicate

Sales plays high school football in Indianapolis, but his family originally hails from Alabama. He still has family in The Yellowhammer State, and even grew up cheering on the Crimson Tide. Furthermore, Sales even had a nickname of "Bama" growing up. Those ties, as well as a relentless pursuit from DeBoer and company, made the Crimson Tide serious contenders for Sales' services.

If Cignetti is able to secure a commitment from Sales over Alabama, it would deliver yet another crushing blow to the Crimson Tide at the hands of the Hoosiers. Cignetti and the Hoosiers made quick work of the Tide in the Rose Bowl during their CFP run, as they dominating from start to finish en route to a 38-3 victory. The win raised eyebrows across the college football world, and propelled Indiana to its first-ever National Championship.

Furthermore, bringing Sales to Bloomington would be the latest historical achievement during Cignetti's tenure in Bloomington. Indiana has never landed a 5-star prospect out of high school, and keeping Sales in The Hoosier State would be a slam dunk recruiting win for the IU program.
