Indiana 2027 recruiting target Monshun Sales is in the midst of his decision-making process. Sales' list of final contenders includes Indiana, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and LSU. Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers should feel good about their chances of landing the 5-star prospect, as IU is given a strong 81.7% chance to land Sales via the Rivals Industry Consensus.
For a while, Sales' recruitment process has looked like a two-horse race between Big Ten rivals Indiana and Ohio State. However, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are making a serious push for the highly-touted prospect from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis. Texas has gained some serious ground over the last week, and the latest development is hard to ignore for Indiana football fans.
Recruiting expert lists Texas as Indiana's main competition for 5-star WR Monshun Sales
Throughout the last week, Sales has shown plenty of love to the Longhorns on social media. He re-posted a tweet from Texas commit Brock Williams telling Texas fans to let Sales know where he belonged. Sales then shared a Hook'Em Headlines story about Texas still having a strong chance in his recruitment.
That smoke got even heavier on Wednesday when On3/Rivals Vice President Steve Wiltfong reported that his sources have Indiana and Texas as Sales' top-2 contenders. Ohio State and Alabama were previously considered to be near the top of Sales' list, but now Wiltfong has the Longhorns making a serious push at a critical point in time.

Wiltfong notes Sarkisian's scheme and ability to develop elite WR talent in Austin. Texas has been involved in Sales' recruitment from the jump, but has generally been thought to have been on the outside looking in. But now, Wiltfong's comments about Texas being top-2 certainly gets the attention of Indiana fans.
Texas is testing Indiana's hold on 5-star WR Monshun Sales
While Sarkisian has a strong track record when it comes to developing WR talent, so does Cignetti. Most notably, Omar Cooper Jr. went to the same high school as Sales and became a first round draft pick under Cignetti's leadership. As Wiltfong points out, Cooper likely would not have heard his name called at all in the NFL Draft if Cignetti didn't get the job at Indiana.

That's the kind of development that is appealing to recruits of Sales' caliber, and IU fans are hoping the in-state product stays local and plays his college football in Bloomington. Indiana is still in a good place, but Texas' late surge is putting Indiana's hold on Sales to the test. Hopefully, Cignetti and company are able to win out in the end.
Ranked as the No. 1 WR and No. 8 overall player in the country by Rivals, Sales is the highest-ranked 5-star prospect in the 2027 cycle who has yet to make a commitment decision. With all of his Official Visits wrapped up, it wouldn't be surprising to see a commitment come sometime in the next few weeks.
