The Indiana Hoosiers are locked in a contentious recruiting battle for one of the top players in the country.

5-star Indiana target Monshun Sales is ranked as the No. 1 WR and No. 13 overall player in the country for the 2027 class according to 247Sports. Several recruiting industry experts have logged predictions for Sales to end up in Bloomington, but several other competitors are making their respective pushes.

Along with taking Official Visits to Indiana, Alabama, and Ohio State in recent week, a new team has entered the mix in Sales' recruitment. On Sunday, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong reported that Sales has locked in an Official Visit with LSU. According to Wiltfong, the visit is slated to take place this Tuesday, June 16.

Lane Kiffin and the Tigers entering the chat at this point in time is peculiar, and gives Indiana fans one more thing to worry about.

LSU's entry to the Monshun Sales sweepstakes has Indiana fans sweating

The LSU football program has a well-documented history of finding and developing elite talent at the wide receiver position. Over the last several years, LSU has produced top-tier NFL receivers such as Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr, Jarvis Landry, and Odell Beckham Jr. Kiffin and company are undoubtedly going to point to that production as a main talking point during Sales' visit to Baton Rouge on Tuesday.

LSU has also shown that they are willing to go all-in as Kiffin enters his first season at the helm of the program. The LSU athletic department opened up the checkbook in a major way to hire Kiffin, and has deployed seemingly endless resources into NIL throughout this offseason. With Sales among the most coveted players in the 2027 cycle who remains uncommitted, LSU presents a major threat to Indiana at this point in time.

Kiffin has put together a solid first offseason in Baton Rouge, and he has already established plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail. As it stands, LSU's 2027 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 19 in the country according to Rivals, while Indiana holds the No. 29 spot on the list.

Indiana banking on Curt Cignetti's winning pedigree to land 5-star WR Monshun Sales

LSU underperformed throughout Brian Kelly's tenure and have yet to get back to the College Football Playoff since their historic 2019 season. Meanwhile in Bloomington, the Hoosiers are 27-2 under Curt Cignetti and are coming off a historic 16-0 season that resulted in the school's first-ever National Championship in football. Hoosier fans are hoping that winning pedigree helps Cignetti and company seal the deal with the Lawrence North product.

After wrapping up his visit to Baton Rouge on Tuesday, Sales will head to Austin to visit Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns this weekend starting on June 19. After that, he will likely enter his decision-making process.

Indiana has never landed a 5-star prospect out of high school in program history, but Cignetti has the Hoosiers wel-positioned to change that. With IU fans waiting on the edge of their seats, Sales' visits to both LSU and Texas this week are sure to be followed extremely closely.
