The Indiana football program has never landed a 5-star high school recruit in its history. However, Curt Cignetti has the Hoosiers on the verge of changing that.

Indiana's top recruiting target in the 2027 cycle is 5-star WR Monshun Sales, who hails from right up the road at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis. He is ranked as the No. 2 WR and No. 8 overall player in the 2027 cycle by Rivals, and Indiana is firmly in the mix to secure his services.

Sales' recruitment has been one of the most competitive battles in the country from the very beginning. He took a handful of Official Visits in the spring, including a trip to Bloomington during the weekend of April 24. Now, the coveted prospect has set an official commitment date.

Hoosier football fans won't have to wait too long to find out where Sales will play college football. Sales will announce his commitment in less than week on Friday, July 17.

His decision will be announced at Noon ET live on The Pat McAfee Show, and he will be deciding between a group of finalists that includes Indiana, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, and LSU.

While Sales has five total schools listed in his finalists, at this point in time Alabama and LSU appear to be out of the running. Lane Kiffin and the Tigers didn't make a move until later in the process, and while Sales took an Official Visit to Baton Rouge last month, there doesn't appear to be any further momentum for LSU.

Alabama may also be out of the mix after Rivals' Steve Wiltfong reported earlier this week that his sources are indicating that Sales' final two contenders are Indiana and Texas. Pushing Alabama's chances down is a big win for Cignetti and company, as Sales' family is originally from Alabama and he grew up cheering on the Crimson Tide.

Indiana and Texas appear to be the two top contenders, but Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes can't be counted out. With so much hanging in the balance, Sales' looming decision carries plenty of weight in the college football recruiting world.

Securing a commitment from Sales would be a massive win for Cignetti and Indiana. Along with becoming Indiana's first-ever 5-star high school commit, Sales would undoubtedly push the Hoosiers up in the national recruiting rankings. As it stands, Indiana's 2027 class is ranked No. 29 in the country by Rivals.

Cignetti has shown that he can find and develop elite WR talent. Omar Cooper Jr, also a Lawrence North star, emerged into a first round pick under Cignetti's leadership in Bloomington. Elijah Sarratt is also off to the NFL after being selected by the Ravens in the fourth round. Looking ahead, both Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh are already generating first round buzz for next year's NFL Draft.

That kind of development, as well as Cignetti's overall record of 27-2 to go along with a National Championship, give Indiana an impressive pitch to Sales. Now, all Hoosier football fans can do is wait.
