The college basketball transfer portal is now open, and Darian DeVries has lots of work to do. DeVries' first season in Bloomington was underwhelming, and he now faces a major roster overhaul with the vast majority of minutes played and scoring from this past season now out of eligibility.
Darian DeVries, Indiana can find 3-point answer in this mid-major sharpshooter
DeVries has already stated that building IU's front court is a top priority this offseason, as the Hoosiers lacked size and physicality at the 4 and 5 positions in 2025-26. Finding a true center and/or a strong power forward would be advantageous for DeVries and Indiana next season.
Indiana is also in desperate need of scoring - and lots of it. The Hoosiers lose their top-five scorers from this past season, and as it stands, the top returning scorer on the roster is Trent Sisley, who averaged just 4.2 points per game.
With those needs in mind, here are 3 dream targets DeVries needs to go after now that the portal is open.
Paulius Murauskas, PF (Saint Mary's)
Saint Mary's star forward Paulius Murauskas is one of the best players available in the portal. Owning a 6'8" 235-pound frame, Murauskas is ranked by 247Sports as the top power forward and No. 4 overall player in the portal.
This past season, Murauskas was second in the WCC averaging 18.4 points per game and ranked third in the conference with a field goal percentage of 48.2%. He was also strong on the glass, averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. For his efforts, Murauskas was named an All-West Coast Conference selection and helped lead Saint Mary's back to the NCAA Tournament.
He can score in a wide variety of ways, and is arguably the most complete player in the portal. It would be a dream come true to land him, but he should be at the top of DeVries' portal wish list.
Andrew McKeever, C (Saint Mary's)
As previously mentioned, finding a true center should be a top priority for DeVries in the portal. Also entering the portal from Saint Mary's, Andrew McKeever should be at the top of DeVries' list. McKeever is a 7'3" center who led the WCC in rebounds per game with 9.2 this past season. His size and rebounding ability are exactly what DeVries and the Hoosiers need next season.
Indiana's rebounding numbers weren't great in DeVries' first year at the helm. As a team, the Hoosiers finished 13th in the Big Ten averaging 32.4 total rebounds per game. They were even worse on the offensive glass, finishing dead last in the conference with 8.2 offensive rebounds per game. The lack of second chance opportunities left fans frustrated with way too many one-and-done trips.
Tucker DeVries paced Indiana with 5.3 rebounds per game in 2025-26, which is nearly 4 rebounds lower than McKeever's average. Furthermore, DeVries' 5.3 boards per game came while playing 34.2 minutes per game, while McKeever brought down 9.2 rebounds per game playing just 23.2 minutes per game. Entering his junior season, McKeever figures to see an uptick in minutes wherever he ends up, and that should result in bigger rebounding numbers.
Colby Garland, PG (San Jose State)
A match between San Jose State guard Colby Garland and Indiana makes too much sense. Garland played for DeVries at Drake during the 2023-24 season, and that connection could lead to a reunion in Bloomington.
This past season, Garland earned Third Team All-Mountain West honors after averaging 20.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game for San Jose State. The 6'1" guard is an efficient scorer who shot 49.0% from the field and posted a three-point percentage of 37.2% this season.
Garland also has a wealth of collegiate experience, which is something that DeVries prioritized in last year's portal cycle. In total, he's appeared in 92 collegiate games with 57 starts. Coming off the best season of his career, and given IU's scoring needs, Garland could make for an ideal fit with DeVries once again.
