The Indiana Hoosiers ended the 2025-26 season on a disappointing note, going 1-6 in their final seven games to miss the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year. Now, Darian DeVries and his staff have to replace nearly 78% of minutes played and 84.1% of the scoring from this past season. Needless to say, DeVries is likely to utilize the transfer portal once again to construct IU's roster to next season.

Miami OH is everything Hoosier fans hoped Indiana would be this season

Plenty of players across the country have already announced their intent to enter the portal when it opens next month, and DeVries already has some solid targets to go after. Among them are San Jose State guard Colby Garland, who played for DeVries at Drake during the 2023-24 season. Given his previous connection to DeVries, Bloomington could be an ideal landing spot for Garland.

Reunion between Darian DeVries and Colby Garland would make perfect sense for Indiana next season

Hailing from Magnolia, AR, Garland is a 6'1" guard who earned Third Team All-Mountain West honors this season after averaging 20.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game for San Jose State.

Prior to spending this season with San Jose State, Garland played for Drake in 2023-24 and Longwood in 2024-25. With DeVries and the Bulldogs, he played in all 31 games and averaged 5.7 points, 2.3 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game. He then appeared in 32 games for Longwood and made 28 starts last season where he averaged 12. points, 4.4 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game.

In total, he's appeared in 92 collegiate games with 57 starts. He is coming off the best season in his career, and with IU needing plenty of scoring production to replace from last season, could be at the top of DeVries' portal wish list this offseason.

Garland is an efficient scorer who posted a shooting percentage of 49.0% this past season, and has seen his three-point percentage increase in each year of his collegiate career. He shot 37.2% from beyond the arc this season, which would have been 3rd on the Hoosiers this season.

With plenty of guard help needed for next season, a reunion between DeVries and Garland would make perfect sense for the Hoosiers.
