Darian DeVries and the Indiana Hoosiers are having a solid offseason so far.
Indiana is receiving little returning production from last season, as soon-to-be sophomore forward Trent Sisley is the lone returning player from DeVries' first season in Bloomington. With an incoming recruiting class featuring three players, DeVries and executive director of basketball Ryan Carr entered the offseason with a tall task rebuilding IU's roster.
DeVries and Carr were relatively quiet for the first week of the portal being opened, but hit the ground running in Week 2. Now, Indiana's roster is in a much better place than it was at this point in time last year, and Hoosier fans are fired up for what 2026 could bring.
Transfer portal closes with Indiana making a statement
So far, DeVries has added PG Markus Burton from Notre Dame, G Darren Harris from Duke, SG Jaeden Mustaf from Georgia Tech, SG Bryce Lindsay from Villanova, C Samet Yigitoglu from SMU, and PF Aiden Sherrell from Alabama. It's an impressive class which is currently ranked as the top portal class in the country by On3.
Sherrell and Burton are the headliners, as Sherrell comes in ranked as the No. 11 overall player and the No. 5 power forward in the portal by 247Sports. Burton isn't far behind as the No. 22 overall player and No. 7 point guard on the market.
The transfer portal opened up on Tuesday, April 7 and remained open until Tuesday, April 21. Now closed, no new players can put their name into the portal. Players already in the portal can commit to a new team at any time.
DeVries has already added a haul, but he still has a few roster spots open for next season. Still with plenty of talented players out there, DeVries is likely to bring in a couple more players from the portal for next year's roster.
Indiana's strong portal additions have Hoosier fans eyeing a return to March Madness
The Hoosiers have missed the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons, and IU fans are starving for another March Madness run. The talent DeVries has collected through the portal has things looking up in Bloomington. After an underwhelming 18-14 season, Indiana's portal moves have given Indiana basketball fans a new energy.
On Wednesday, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi released his first predictions for the 2027 NCAA Tournament field. Indiana fans are fired up to see the Hoosiers in the field as a No. 7 seed. There is a lot of work to do in making the talent fuse together, but the hype is very real at the moment.
