Indiana football is hosting their biggest name target and recruit in Texas native and five-star prospect Jalen Brewster.

Jalen Brewster, the top defensive lineman in the class of 2027, will be in Bloomington when the Hoosiers take on No. 9 Illinois on Saturday. His first visit with the program was this past June.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings the 6-foot-4, 277-pound five-star defensive lineman is the No. 8 overall prospect in the country, the No. 1 defensive lineman nationally, and the third best prospect in Texas in the 2027 class.

Brewster had 16 tackles with seven tackles for a loss, four sacks, two passes defended, a fumble recovery and three QB hurries in five games last season, according to 247Sports in the 2024-25 season.

Jalen Brewster already holds 29 Division I offers and is being heavily pursued by the country’s top programs his offers includes schools like: SMU, LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, USC, Alabama, Arizona State, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Jacksonville State, Marshall, Memphis, North Texas, San Diego State, Southern Miss, Tulsa, and UTSA.

He attends Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, Texas, but was born and spent much of his childhood in Indianapolis, less than an hour away from Bloomington.

Gabe Brooks of 247Sports said that Brewster has the chance to make an impact early in his college career based on his traits and potential.

"Strong, explosive front-line defender with an impressive combination of size and athleticism. Legitimately 6-foot-3, 300 pounds but owns extensive snaps in a two-point edge alignment. Emphatically sets an edge. Flashes a heavy inside hand coupled with stack-and-shed strength. Projects as a high-major interior D-line force who could become serious impact player," Brooks said.

Indiana has prioritized the defensive front under Curt Cignetti, going as far as employing separate coaches for defensive tackles and ends. As an interior lineman, Brewster would join Pat Kuntz’s room.

Over the next few months, Brewster will be a player to watch. He will be a popular name for top schools looking to boost their defense, and Indiana hopes they are at the top of his list. The fact that he is making a trip to Bloomington in such a big game this weekend is a good sign for the Hoosiers.

Landing the 6-foot-3, 302-pound junior would be the final step in Cignetti truly cementing Indiana as a football school and he would be the first five-star recruit to ever sign with the Indiana Hoosiers.
