For the second offseason in a row, Darian DeVries has been tasked with building Indiana's roster back up from scratch. Entering his first season at the helm of the IU program, DeVries had zero returning players heading into last season. Following the season, only rising sophomore Trent Sisley will be back from the 2025-26 Hoosiers.
In today's world of college basketball, the transfer portal creates significant roster turnover year-after-year for teams all over the country. Indiana is no different, and DeVries has effectvively utilized the portal early on this offseason.

DeVries' portal additions are garnering plenty of attention, and expectations are already soaring. On Sunday, On3 released its latest rankings of college basketball transfer portal winners by additions. Hoosier fans are excited to see Indiana's name near the top of the list.
Indiana's transfer portal class earns high praise in latest portal rankings
As it stands, Indiana has the No. 3 portal class in the country according to On3. The Hoosiers trail only Louisville and Texas, making them the highest-ranked Big Ten team on the list.

So far, DeVries has added PG Markus Burton (Notre Dame), SG Jaeden Mustaf (Georgia Tech), G Darren Harris (Duke), SG Bryce Lindsay (Villanova), C Samet Yigitoglu (SMU), and PF Aiden Sherrell (Alabama) via the portal. All six of those players have multiple years of high-major experience, and all of them have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
Furthermore, all of those additions have complementary skill sets that give the Hoosiers plenty of potential next season. Burton is a bonafide scorer who can also facilitate effectively and be the offense's floor general. Lindsay is a knock-down shooter, Mustaf is a physical rebounder for a guard, and Yigitoglu and Sherrell give Indiana's frontcourt the size and physicality it desperately missed last season.
The class has earned high praise from several outlets over the past several weeks, and even held the No. 1 spot in On3's portal rankings for multiple weeks. However, DeVries not making any portal additions since adding Bryce Lindsay on April 15 has caused IU to slip from the top spot.
But the praise and hype continues to build for the Hoosiers. CBS Sports' John Rothstein is thoroughly impressed by Indiana's upgraded talent base this offseason, and he has the Hoosiers pegged as a top-25 team entering the start of next season. With an expanded 76-team NCAA Tournament field, DeVries needs to get the best out of this group to earn a March Madness invitation next season.
