The college basketball world is taking notice of what Darian DeVries is doing in the transfer portal this offseason.

So far, DeVries has rebuilt Indiana's roster with six portal additions: SG Jaeden Mustaf from Georgia Tech, G Darren Harris from Duke, PG Markus Burton from Notre Dame, PF Aiden Sherrell from Alabama, C Samet Yigitoglu from SMU, and G Bryce Lindsay from Villanova. Together, that group is ranked as the top portal class in the country according to On3.

The mix of four guards and two frontcourt players in Sherrell and Yigitoglu, as well as lone returner Trent Sisley, give the Hoosiers much more balance and proven high-major talent than last year's portal class. Add in the fact that Indiana's incoming recruiting class features a trio of top-80 players in Vaughn Karvala, Prince-Alexander Moody, and Trevor Manhertz, and things are looking up in Bloomington.

CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein has taken notice, and he is giving DeVries and company serious props.

Indiana is a top-25 team according to Jon Rothstein

Rothstein is loving what DeVries has done in the portal thus far.

"The Hoosiers have done a fine job restocking their roster entering Year 2 under Darian DeVries," Rothstein said on Inside College Basketball Now on Monday. Rothstein goes further to say that he wasn't a fan of DeVries' strategy last year which involved bringing in mid-major all-league players, but that DeVries' portal class so far is a major win for the Hoosiers.

"When I look at the talent that's been brought to Bloomington, Markus Burton from Notre Dame, Bryce Lindsay from Villanova, Darren Harris from Duke, Samet Yigitoglu from SMU, Alabama's Aiden Sherrell...Indiana, on paper, is a top-25 team to start next season."

Rothstein has the Hoosiers pegged as a top-25 team entering the country, and those comments have Hoosier fans smiling. DeVries and company still have to put it all together, but the talent is there to make some serious noise in the Big Ten next season.

DeVries' first season in Bloomington ended in disappointment, as IU went 1-6 down the stretch to end the season 18-14 overall and missed out on the NCAA Tournament once again. Indiana has now missed out on March Madness in three straight seasons and in eight of the last 10 years. He is only entering his second season, but it's clear that DeVries faces some urgency in 2026-27.

The transfer portal is set to close on Tuesday, but players in the portal can commit to a new team at any time. With a few more roster spots available, DeVries isn't done yet.
