After battling injuries during training camp and experiencing a slow start to the season, former Hoosier WR Omar Cooper Jr. finally had his NFL breakout game in Week 6.
Cooper made his NFL debut back on Sept. 13 and collected one catch for 30 yards. He then found himself on IR with a high ankle sprain. Thus, his NFL career was off to a less-than-ideal start over the past few weeks. Hwoever, he made sure to make the most of his opportunity once healthy again.
Cooper, the 30th overall pick in April's 2026 NFL Draft, returned to the field this past Sunday afternoon against the Patriots. Cooper was New York's leading receiver on the day, as he hauled in 6 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. His first-career NFL touchdown came on a 48-yard strike from Geno Smith in the 3rd quarter.

Smith, a 13-year NFL veteran, raved about Cooper's performance when speaking with the media after the game.
“He fought just to get back out there, and what he did was showcase who he is: He’s a playmaker,” Smith told reporters. “He’s a guy who finds ways to make catches. The tough catches — he makes them look easy.”
Omar Cooper Jr. is poised for a steady role in the Jets' passing game
After his eye-popping performance in Week 6, Cooper could find himself with a steady role in the New York passing game moving forward. The Jets have been desperately searching for a WR2 to play alongside Garrett Wilson, but so far, the franchise hasn't been able to find a player who sticks. Cooper could be the man for the job.

Cooper is among the most dynamic young receivers in the entire NFL. He is extremely athletic, has great hands, and specializes at racking up yards after the catch. His ability to make defenders miss in open space makes him a threat to turn short completions into big plays. Furthermore, his explosiveness and playmaking ability make him a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses. All of those attributes were on full display this weekend.
Cooper played a vital role in Indiana's National Championship-winning season last year. The Indianapolis native paced the Hoosiers in both catches (69) and receiving yards (937), while also hauling in 13 touchdowns and adding 74 yards and a touchdown on the ground. In total, Cooper totaled 115 catches for 1,798 yards and 22 touchdowns throughout his four seasons with the Hoosiers.
His most memorable moment at Indiana came against Penn State last season. Cooper's incredible acrobatic catch in the closing seconds gave the Hoosiers a huge road win and kept their undefeated season alive. With a skill set that enables him to make highlight-reel catches like that, it's no wonder the Jets took him in the first round back in April. Hopefully Cooper is able to keep the momentum rolling into Week 7 when the Jets take on the Dolphins this Sunday afternoon.
