The Indiana Hoosiers don't have much time to lick their wounds after losing to Ohio State this past weekend. That's because a tough road test awaits them this coming Saturday. Indiana is heading north to take on the Michigan Wolverines in Week 8, and walking out of The Big House with a win won't be easy.
Now 6-1, the Hoosiers enter this matchup ranked as the No. 6 team in the country. On the other side, Michigan is 4-2 and unranked. Kyle Whittingham's first season in Ann Arbor has been full of drama, but that doesn't mean the Wolverines aren't a threat to the Hoosiers.
Betting odds have been released for this Week 8 Big Ten battle, and proffessional oddsmakers have Indiana on upset alert. Here is a closer look at the early Indiana vs Michigan betting odds, and one question that looms large over this intriguing matchup.
Oddsmakers expect Michigan to put up a fight against Indiana
For the sixth time in seven games, the Hoosiers are favored in the eyes of Vegas. Via DraftKings Sportsbook, Indiana is currently favored by seven points over Michigan. It's not necessarily surprising to see, as the Hoosiers have undoubtedly looked like the superior team so far this season. But the one-score line shows that oddsmakers expect Michigan to put up a fight.

Michigan's QB situation is still up in the air
Michigan has experienced a roller coaster season so far in 2026. The defense is elite, and could even be considered the best in the Big Ten and among the best in the country. In total, the Wolverines are holding their opponents to 16.2 points per game and lead the Big Ten by surrendering just 256.5 total yards of offense per game.
But the offense has been a whole different story. QB Bryce Underwood hasn't taken the next step in his development, and has struggled all season long. Through six games, Underwood has completed 58.1% of his passes for 924 yards and has more interceptions (6) than touchdowns (5). That's not exactly ideal.
After completing just five of 11 passes for 43 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions this past weekend against Penn State, Underwood was benched in favor of backup Tommy Carr. After Whittingham made the switch at halftime, Carr instantly provided a spark to the Michigan offense. Michigan trailed 3-0 at the break, but then scored 21 points in the 2nd half to win 21-18. Carr was much more efficient as a passer, as he went 5-for-7 for 47 yards. He was also a threat with his legs, totaling 36 yards and a touchdown on the ground. It's just a small sample size, but there's no denying that the Michigan offense looked a lot better with Carr leading the way.
Heading into Week 8, Whittingham is keeping his QB decision close to the vest. He has yet to announce a starter, and it seems likely that he waits as long as possible. Given the uncertainty surrounding Michigan's QB situation, the Indiana vs Michigan odds could fluctuate throughout the week. It's also possible that both Carr and Underwood see playing time against Hoosiers. Curt Cignetti and company have to be ready for anything.
