New York Giants inside linebacker Micah McFadden was carted off the field in the first quarter of the team's season opener on Sunday against the Washington Commanders.

Micah McFadden’s scary injury in the Giants' Week 1 opener against the Commanders had fans holding their breath, but early X-rays show no fractures.

The fourth-year veteran and former Indiana Hoosiers suffered a leg injury that needed to be placed in an aircast. McFadden's right leg bent awkwardly under him while making a tackle on the Commanders' running back Austin Ekeler.

McFadden was the Giants’ leader in tackles last season with 107. A fifth-round draft pick out of Indiana in 2022, McFadden has developed into a solid starter for the New York Giants.

Micah McFadden was sent for X-rays, which came back negative.

McFadden was replaced in the lineup by Darius Muasau. The Commanders targeted Muasau on a 7-yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz shortly after McFadden was carted off the field.

The Giants’ defense gave up 432 total yards on Sunday.

McFadden, who is in the final year of his rookie deal is looking to return as soon as possible but has no timetable set to return.

McFadden had an amazing career at Indiana, he finished his career with 216 tackles, 149 solo, 14 sacks (94 yards), 37 for loss (169 yards), four interceptions, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and four pass breakups.

This past season in 2024, McFadden suffered a nagging groin injury during the preseason that set him back, but he played in 14 games, starting in all 14 and had career-highs with 107 tackles and three sacks.  It was his second straight season with more than 100 tackles.

The New York Giants will travel to take on the Dallas Cowboys in a division rivalry on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM EDT at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
