The recruiting race for 5-star WR Monshun Sales has taken an unexpected turn.

Hailing from right up the road at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, the Indiana Hoosiers are considered the favorite to land the in-state product. But the competition is heating up in a major way.

Since taking an Official Visit to Bloomington in April, Sales also visited Alabama in May and was in Columbus visiting Ohio State this weekend. His list of finalists entering the weekend included Indiana, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and Miami (FL).

But now a new competitor has entered the mix.

5-star Indiana target Monshun Sales schedules Official Visit with LSU

On Sunday afternoon, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong reported that Sales has locked in an Official Visit with LSU. According to Wiltfong, the visit is scheduled for this Tuesday, June 16.

It's a surprising development, as the Tigers have not been heavily featured in Sales' recruitment process up until now. But it seems that Lane Kiffin is taking his shot at the elite wideout.

Following his visit to Baton Rouge on Tuesday, Sales will head to Austin for his final Official Visit of the spring with the Texas Longhorns. Once that visit is wrapped up, a decision from Sales could be coming at any moment. With a new team entering the mix, Hoosier fans are waiting with bated breath to see what Sales decides.

LSU entering Monshun Sales' recruitment poses a major threat to Indiana

Ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the state of Indiana and the No. 1 wide receiver in the country according to 247Sports, Sales is arguably the biggest name still on the market in the 2027 recruiting class. His recruitment has been closely-followed by college football fans across the country, and LSU entering the mix so late in the process is eye-opening.

Kiffin has put together a solid offseason in Baton Rouge, and he has established plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail. LSU's 2027 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 19 in the country according to Rivals. For comparison, Indiana's class sits at No. 29 on the list.

Big Ten rival swipes 4-star OL target Caleb Johnson away from Curt Cignetti, Indiana

The LSU program has continuously churned out top-tier NFL talent, with an alumni group consisting of Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas, Odell Beckham Jr, and Jarvis Landry, among others. However, LSU has not been able to find the success on the field that Indiana has seen in recent years.

Curt Cignetti has led the Hoosiers to an overall record of 27-2 over his two seasons in Bloomington and is coming off a historic 16-0 season that culminated in a National Championship. Down in Baton Rouge, the Tigers underperformed during Brian Kelly's tenure and are now entering the Lane Kiffin era.

There are plenty of question marks as to what that the LSU program will look like under Kiffin moving forward, while it's clear that Indiana has plenty of staying power with Cignetti leading the way. Hoosier football fans are hoping that winning pedigree leads Indiana to landing a commitment from Sales.
