Indiana running back Lee Beebe Jr. will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Beebe suffered the knee injury in Friday’s 73-0 win against Indiana State at Memorial Stadium.

Curt Cignetti made the announcement of Beebe’s status for the remainder of the season in his Monday press conference in Bloomington.

“Beebe sustained a non-contact knee injury and will be lost for the season,” Cignetti told reporters.

Halfway into the third quarter, Lee Beebe Jr rushed to the left through a hole opened by the offensive line. He then cut with his right leg, suffering the injury without being contacted. After going back to the locker room, Beebe emerged on the sideline with a brace on his right knee.

Through the first three games of the season, Beebe totaled 27 carries for 209 yards and a touchdown.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2024 for UAB, the 5-foot-10 and 220-pounder ran 166 times for 884 yards and seven touchdowns, he also added 219 receiving yards , 30 caught passes and led the team with 1,103 all-purpose yards.

In 2023, Beebe had 52 carries for 360 yards and four touchdowns with 6.9 yards per carry.

According to PFF, 648 of Beebe’s yards came after contact, and he forced 39 missed tackles on the season.  His total yards after contact ranked No. 42 across all of FBS.  He fumbled three times and dropped five passes on 42 targets.

Beebe still has another season of eligibility remaining and could also apply for a medical hardship waiver for an additional season of eligibility because he appeared in just three games this season.

The Hoosiers ranks third nationally in rushing offense at 307.7 yards per game, will continue to lean on backs Kaelon Black and Roman Hemby. Head coach Curt Cignetti said redshirt freshman Khobie Martin will also have an increased role with Beebe sidelined for the season.

Martin’s first opportunity to make an impact alongside Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black will come in front of a sold-out crowd as No. 19 Indiana will host No. 9 Illinois at 7:30 p.m. Saturday inside Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
