Indiana’s win over Western Kentucky had 2 clear catalysts stand above the rest

The Indiana Hoosiers wrapped up non-conference play with a 38-0 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon in Bloomington. The Hoosiers started slow, but ultimately had enough firepower to pickup another lopsided win. Indiana finishes the non-conference schedule 3-0 with wins by a combined score of 145-16.

It took a while for Indiana to get rolling in this contest, and there are undoubtedly still plenty of things to work on heading into Big Ten play. However, the Hoosiers can thank two key playmakers for playing leading roles in Saturday's victory over the Hilltoppers.

Isaiah Jones provides much-needed spark before halftime

The Hoosiers put forth a sleep first half performance. The offense couldn't sustain drives and the defense was struggling to get off the field. As 44.5-point favorites, the Hoosiers were up just 7-0 in the closing minutes of the first half. Needing a big momentum boost, Isaiah Jones made a huge play right before the half.

Jones made a great read on WKU QB Brock Glenn, jumped the route, and came up with a clutch interception. He returned the ball down to the WKU 2-yard line, setting the Hoosier offense up with a great opportunity to find the end zone before the break. That's exactly what they did, as Lee Beebe Jr. would run it in just two plays later.

Jones' tremendous instincts and playmaking ability came exactly at the right time. Indiana was sleepwalking through the first half, but his INT and near pick-6 gave Indiana a much-needed energy boost going into halftime. Indiana would then out-score Western Kentucky 24-0 in the second half, and the defense posted its second consecutive shutout.

Charlie Becker continues to be ridiculous

Charlie Becker is off to a tremendous start in 2026. Becker was arguably the best WR in the country during the second half of last season, and he's picked up right where he left off last season. His strong start has him already garnering plenty of first round NFL Draft hype, and he continued to raise eyebrows on Saturday.

The big plays were hard to come by in the first half. Hoover had iffy accuracy and couldn't find a rhythm. But then he hit Becker for a 79-yard touchdown that broke the game open. Becker's elite speed, noticeable size, great hands, and athleticism were on full display.

Becker ended the day with 5 catches for a team-leading 127 yards and this touchdown. On the season he is now up to 12 catches for 272 yards and 6 touchdowns. If he keeps this level of production up, he deserves to be in the conversation when it comes to the Biletnikoff and Heisman Trophy awards.

Nick Marsh also put forth his best game of the season so far, as he had 7 catches for 81 yards. Together, Becker and Marsh have the potential to be among the best WR duos in all of college football this season. Big Ten play begins on Friday, September 25 against Northwestern.
