Darian DeVries wasted no time securing a commitment from one of the top players in the state.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Indiana Hoosiers landed a commitment from 2029 prospect Micah Mohler. He is the first commit to join Indiana's 2029 recruiting class.

Mohler, a 6'5" 205-pound shooting guard from Austin High School in Austin, IN, says that Indiana is his dream school.

“It was really exciting because that’s my dream school,” Mohler told Peegs.com after first receiving an offer from Indiana earlier this summer. “And that’s where I’ve wanted to play since I was little. So, getting that offer, it was really exciting.”

After pledging his commitment to the Cream and Crimson, Mohler will now get to see his dreams become a reality.

Instead of taking more time during his recruitment process, Mohler wanted to make his commitment to Indiana official. He was in Bloomington for an official visit back in June, which marked the lone visit of his recruitment process. Mohler chose the Hoosiers over other offers from Purdue, Western Kentucky and Evansville.

Official recruiting rankings for the 2029 recruiting cycle have yet to be released, but Mohler is widely regarded as one of the top players in the state of Indiana. Keeping the top prospects from The Hoosier State in Indiana is a top priority for Darian DeVries and his staff. Indiana has long been a recruiting hotbed for elite basketball talent, and getting those players to Bloomington has been a signature of Indiana basketball recruiting over the years.

Mohler averaged an impressive 21.5 points per game during his freshman season at Austin High School. Furthermore, he averaged 19.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game playing on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit for the Midwest Basketball Club. Now a rising sophomore, Mohler is poised to meet or exceed those numbers in 2026-27.

Mohler's commitment continues to a strong recruiting heater for DeVries. He landed a commitment fro 5-star center Darius Wabbington last week, who becomes the first 5-star commit in the DeVries era at Indiana. He is ranked as the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 center in the nationaccording to 247Sports. It was a signature recruiting victory that DeVries desperately needed, and now he has continued the momentum in impressive fashion.

Along with Wabbington, other players featured in Indiana's 2027 recruiting class include 4-star guard Chase Branham and international center Felix Koehlneker. With Wabbington now in the mix, the Hoosiers now own the 3rd-ranked recruiting class in the country for the 2027 cycle according to 247Sports.

The Hoosiers don't have a commitment for the 2028 class at this time, and Kohler is the first IU commit for the 2029 cycle. Welcome to Bloomington, Micah!
