The Indiana Hoosiers are locked in a high-stakes recruiting battle for 5-star WR Monshun Sales.
Sales is an in-state product hailing from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, and Indiana is in a great spot to land a commitment from the 6'5" 195-pound playmaker. However, several teams including LSU are still battling for his services as well.
Lane Kiffin and LSU picked up a commitment from a different 2027 wide receiver over the weekend, and that development plays an interesting role in Sales' recruitment. In fact, it could actually benefit Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers.
LSU's latest recruiting win could actually work in Indiana's favor when it comes to 5-star WR Monshun Sales
On Sunday, Kiffin was able to flip 3-star WR Gary Burney Jr. from Houston to LSU. Burney is a 6'3" 190-pound WR from Bossier City, LA, and is ranked as the No. 75 WR in the country according to 247Sports.

The move is significant, as it comes just a week after Sales' visit to Baton Rouge and while the 5-star product is still in his decision-making process. Furthermore, LSU's 2027 recruiting class now features three wide receivers. Along with Burney, LSU's 2027 class also includes 4-star wideouts Ah'Mari Stevens and Cade Cooper. Could that play a role in Sales' consideration of LSU? Indiana fans certainly hope so.
Conversly, Indiana's 2027 recruiting class features a pair of wide receivers in 4-star Branden Sharpe and 3-star Jordan Carrasquillo. Adding Sales to the mix would be a huge recruiting win for Cignetti and company.
Lane Kiffin and LSU have moved fast to catch up in the Monshun Sales sweepstakes
Kiffin and the Tigers are new to the party when it comes to Sales' recruitment. LSU wasn't included in Sales' original list of finalists that included Indiana, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and Miami (FL). But earlier this month, Kiffin was able to secure an Official Visit from Sales during the week of June 16.
Last week, Kiffin was able to swoop in at the last minute and secure a commitment from 4-star RB Tre Segarra. LSU was not in Segarr's original list of finalists, but Kiffin and company moved extremely quick to secure a commitment. The Tigers first extended an offer to the highly-touted prospect on June 5, and they were able to land a commitment just 10 days later. That quick pursuit from Kiffin has Indiana fans on edge when it comes to Sales' recruitment.
However, with LSU's 2027 receiving room getting more full, IU fans are hoping that steers Sales away from LSU. Indiana is still considered the favorite to land Sales on several recruiting platforms out there, and Rivals Industry Consensus is currently giving the Hoosiers a strong 81.7% chance to land his services.
Sales is ranked as the No. 1 WR and the No. 8 overall player in the 2027 class according to Rivals. He is one of the most coveted recruits in the entire country, and Cignetti has IU well-positioned to land his first 5-star recruit in Bloomington. If he can hold off the Buckeyes, Crimson Tide, and Tigers, Hoosier fans would be ecstatic.
