After bringing in 17 players through the transfer portal and signing a top-20 recruiting class in the country for 2026, Curt Cignetti and his staff continue to look for talented players to add to Indiana's 2027 recruiting class. Indiana's 2027 class currently features five players, but Cignetti has positioned the Hoosiers well enough to see that number increase over the next few months.
Hoosiers get major recruiting win with upcoming visit from 4-star EDGE
Looking to continue building the 2027 class, Cignetti and the Hoosiers have positioned themselves nicely in the recruiting battle of 4-star safety Kaleb Elkins. Hailing from Indianapolis, landing an in-state product like Elkins is key for Cignetti.
Indiana among top-6 schools for 4-star safety Kaleb Elkins
According to Hayes Fawcett, Indiana has cracked the list of Elkins' top-6 schools. Elkins listed the Hoosiers along with Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ohio State, Oregon, and Missouri as his top six schools at this stage in his recruitment process.

Playing for Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Elkins is rated as a 4-star prospect and ranked as the No. 25 safety in the country for the 2027 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite. He is also ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Indiana and the No. 273 recruit nationally.
Elkins has official visits planned for May 29 with Vanderbilt and June 13 with Missouri. However, he has not yet scheduled an official visit for Bloomington. If Cignetti and the Hoosiers want to take advantage of their close proximity to the 4-star safety, getting an official visit on the schedule is the next step in the process.
Indiana's offer to Elkins came over a year ago on February 2, 2025, and the Hoosiers were the first Power 4 team to extend him an offer. Hopefully, that early jump gives Indiana an edge in his decision-making process.
Along with being a standout safety on the gridiron, Elkins also plays basketball and participates in the high jump at Warren Central. As a dynamic athlete, he would be a great addition to IU's 2027 recruiting class.
