As it stands, Indiana's 2027 recruiting class features just one player in the form of 6'4" point guard Chase Branham. Darian DeVries remains on the hunt for elite 2027 talent to bring to Bloomington, and he has Indiana firmly in the mix to land one of the most prized recruits in the class.

A name that Indiana basketball fans need to keep an eye on is Darius Wabbington. DeVries and the Hoosiers first extended an offer to the coveted prospect back on July 20, 2025, and since then, Wabbington has racked up offers from over 30 Power 4 schools including just about every blue blood program out there.

Wabbington's recruitment has heated up over the last few weeks, and on Tuesday, he announced his list of finalists. To the delight of Hoosier fans, Indiana is on the list.

Indiana firmly in the running to land 5-star Darius Wabbington

Joe Tipton of On3 was the first to report Wabbington's list of finalists. Along with Indiana, the Phoenix, AZ native is also considering Arizona, Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisville, and Texas. Now that his list of contenders is out, Wabbington's recruitment will only heat up from here.

Tipton also reported that Wabbington has scheduled his first three official visits for the fall. According to 247Sports, those will consist of trips to Louisville on September 11, Arizona on September 25, and Texas on October 9. The Hoosiers will likely get a visit from Wabbington at some point, but an exact date has yet to be established.

Darius Wabbington would be a great recruiting win for Indiana's future frontcourt

During DeVries' first season at the helm of the Indiana program, it was clear that the Hoosier frontcourt lacked the necessary size and athleticism that is needed when competing in the Big Ten. It's clear that DeVries does not want to make that same mistake again. After the season concluded, DeVries stated that rebuilding the frontcourt was a top priority in the portal.

During the offseason, DeVries went out and got Alabama power forward Aiden Sherrell and SMU center Samet Yigitoglu, who were two of the best big men on the market. Together, they figure to lead a vastly-improved Indiana frontcourt in 2026-27. Looking ahead, getting Wabbington in the mix for 2027 and beyond would be a great recruiting win for DeVries and company.

Wabbington is rated as a 5-star prospect by 247Sports, and is ranked as the No. 1 center in the 2027 recruiting class by Rivals. He owns a 6'11" 245-pound frame, and can make plays above the rim on both ends of the floor.

Despite playing center in high school, it's possible that he makes the move to power forward at the collegiate level. He can handle the ball and score off the dribble, and has the ability to spread the floor by knocking down shots from the outside. That kind of versatile skill set could make for a perfect fit in the system DeVries wants to run.

Moving forward, Hoosier fans are going to want to pay close attention to Wabbington's recruitment.
