In the current landscape of college basketball, the transfer portal plays a huge role in roster construction on a yearly basis. Rosters go through massive changes every offseason, which means coaches often don't know who they will have on their teams multiple years in advance as much as they used to.

With that in mind, it is still extremely early to be looking at high school recruiting when it comes to the 2029 cycle. The 2026 cycle just wrapped up, and the 2027 cycle is just beginning. In total, less than 40 prospects from the 2027 class have announced their commitments at this point in time.

However, there is a name that all Indiana basketball fans are quickly learning all about.

Darian DeVries, Indiana offer 2029 shooting guard Micah Mohler

On Tuesday, Darian DeVries extended his first offer to a prospect in the 2029 class. It went to in-state shooting guard Micah Mohler, who was in Bloomington for an unofficial visit at the time of the offer. Mohler has now made multiple trips to Bloomington, and has obviously made enough of an impression to receive an offer from DeVries and company very early in his recruiting process.

Hailing from Austin High School in Austin, IN, Mohler is a 6'5" 205-pound shooting guard who averaged 21.5 points per game this past season as a freshman. When it comes to travel ball, Mohler put up 19.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game playing on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit for the Midwest Basketball Club.

Indiana is the third Division I program to extend him an offer, joining Western Kentucky and Evansville.

Recruiting rankings for the 2029 class are not yet available. However, once reliable rankings are ready to go, Mohler figures to be one of the top players in The Hoosier State. DeVries is wasting no time getting Indiana on his radar as he aims to bring local top talent to Bloomington.

Dusty May's NBA bombshell gives Darian DeVries, Indiana a major break

Mohler's high school team played at the Darian DeVries team camp in Bloomington a few weeks ago. His first on-court action following IU's offer is slated for this weekend at the Charlie Hughes Showcase which will take place at both Westfield High School and Carmel High School on the north side of Indianapolis.

DeVries just completed his first season at the helm of the Hoosier basketball program, and it ended in disappointing fashion. The Hoosiers went 18-14 overall and 9-11 in Big Ten play. They ultimately missed the NCAA Tournament after finishing with a 1-6 record to close out the season.

Needing to orchestrate a much better campaign in Year 2, DeVries has re-tooled Indiana's roster with a promising transfer portal class that is led by PG Markus Burton (Notre Dame), PF Aiden Sherrell (Alabama), and C Samet Yigitoglu (SMU). The Hoosiers also boast a talented incoming recruiting class that is ranked No. 22 in the country by 247Sports.
