After a recruiting heater that saw the Indiana Hoosiers secure eight commitments over a one-month period, Curt Cignetti is looking to get back on track. Indiana hasn't received a commitment since June 3, and during this busy recruiting period of Official Visits, gaining the momentum back is a major point of emphasis right now.

As Cignetti and company continue searching for future talent to bring to Bloomington, one player they are zeroing in on is 4-star OL prospect Caleb Johnson. Hailing from just up the road in Noblesville, Johnson is widely-regarded as one of the top players in the state of Indiana and one of the best offensive lineman prospects out there.

The Hoosiers have been involved in his recruitment for a while, and now they may have the inside track.

Indiana is the team to beat for in-state 4-star OL target Caleb Johnson

Johnson's list of offers exceeds 25 teams, but at this point in time it seems to be a two-team battle between Indiana and Iowa. On Friday, Greg Smith of Rivals reported that between those squads, it's Indiana that holds the current advantage.

"I'm giving Indiana a slight edge right now," said Smith.

Johnson took an Official Visit to Bloomington last month over the weekend of May 15. Since then, the 6'5" 275-pound recruit has also taken visits to Michigan State and Iowa. He is also slated to visit Missouri and Cincinnati this month. Yet, Indiana seems to be sticking out from the crowd.

Johnson is ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the state of Indiana and the No. 13 interior offensive lineman prospect in the country according to 247Sports. His overall rating on Rivals stands at 90.87, which would make him Indiana's highest-ranked recruit in the 2027 class should be decide to commit to the Hoosiers.

Landing Caleb Johnson would give Curt Cignetti some much-needed recruiting momentum

Cignetti has Indiana's 2027 recruiting class in good shape, but more work needs to be done. As it stands, Indiana has the No. 29 recruiting class in the country according to Rivals, but falls in 11th out of 18 Big Ten teams.

Big Ten programs currently ahead of Indiana include Ohio State, USC, Oregon, Michigan, UCLA, Nebraska, Penn State, Washington, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Thus, landing a commitment from a prospect of Johnson's caliber would do wonder for Indiana's 2027 recruiting class.

It would also give the Hoosiers two of the top offensive lineman recruits in the state. 4-star OL Mason McDermott committed to Indiana last month, and he is currently IU's second-highest ranked commit with a rating of 90.18 according to Rivals. McDermott also hails from Noblesville, so perhaps those local ties can help Indiana also land Johnson in the coming weeks.

Indiana had one of the best offensive lines in the country this past season, and that should once again be the case in 2026-27. Adding Johnson to the mix for the future could help continue that Hoosier dominance up front.
