There's no denying that Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers have a team-first mentality. Cignetti has implemented a selfless and team-oriented attitude in Bloomington, and so far, the results have been other-worldly.
But with all of the success that the Hoosiers have found under Cignetti's leadership, individual awards are bound to come along. That was certainly the case last year during Indiana's historic 16-0 National Championship-winning season.

With the new season quickly approaching, watch lists for individual awards are out. The Hoosiers are well-represented up and down these lists, showcasing just how much hype Indiana has entering their title-defending campaign.
Throughout the season, these watch lists will be dwindled down to lists of semifinalists, finalists, and eventual winners. But before the season gets going, let's take a look at where the Hoosiers are positioned on these preseason watch lists:

As you can see from the names listed above, the Hoosiers are well-represented on both sides of the ball. Josh Hoover, Charlie Becker, and Carter Smith are unsurprisingly listed on plenty of offensive award watch lists, while Rolijah Hardy, Isaiah Jones, and Tyrique Tucker find themselves on several defensive award watch lists. That group makes up Indiana's core group of leaders for the upcoming 2026 campaign, and all should be expected to make significant contributions all season long.
With that being said, with so many Hoosiers listed on so many watch lists, it's possible that they end up stealing votes from each other at the end of the season. That would be a great problem to have, as it would indicate that multiple Hoosiers put forth sensational campaigns. It's also worth noting that players not featured on these watch lists are still eligible to win these awards.
But of course, individual awards rely heavily on team success. Earning individual recognition is a great accomplishment, but as previously mentioned, Cignetti will undoubtedly still have his team focused on team goals first.
