Heading into the 2026 college football season, Indiana's defensive front is loaded with potential. The Hoosiers return their Top-5 sack leaders from last season, and added some elite talent through the transfer portal.
Early on in the offseason, Curt Cignetti went out and grabbed a pair of defensive linemen from Kansas State in the forms of Chiddi Obiazor and Tobi Osunsanmi. Obiazor earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 recognition last season after collecting 28 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks. Osunsanmi missed half the season with an injury, but racked up 6.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks in just 6 games.
Now healthy and poised to start at EDGE for the Hoosiers this season, Osunsanmi has the potential to become college football's next big defensive star.

Owning a 6'2" 250-pound frame, Osunsanmi has all the tools to make him a stand-out player on the Hoosier defensive line. He has a track background and possesses elite speed and athleticism for his size. He also has great strength that allows him to overpower the opposition in the trenches.

Osunsanmi also has a great knack for setting the edge and forcing the pocket to collapse. This comprehensive skill set makes him a dangerous threat when defending both the run and pass. With so many other forces to worry about on the Hoosier defensive front, there's a good chance Osunsanmi sees plenty of one-on-one battles this season. That may not go so well for Indiana's opponents.
He also brings a ton of experience to Indiana. That is something Cignetti has prioritized in the portal, and his method has proven to be successful. Osunsanmi appeared in 36 games over four seasons at Kansas State, racking up 50 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks in that span. He was on track for a career year last season before his injury, but now that career year could take place in Bloomington.

Since 2018, the College Football Comeback Player of the Year Award has recognized the sport's student-athletes for overcoming extreme circumstances such as injury, illness, or other setbacks in their collegiate athletic careers. Noteworthy recent winners of the award include Byrum Brown (USF), Bryce Steele (Boston College), Tyler Shough (Louisville), and Blake Corum (Michigan). Former Hoosier QB Michael Penix Jr. won the award in 2022 while at Washington.
The watch list for this prestigious award has been released, and Osunsanmi is one of 94 athletes to appear on the list. He is the only Hoosier represented.
Coming back from a season-ending injury is never easy, but Osunsanmi is poised to make a major impact this season. He put forth a solid showing in the spring, and that momentum has carried over into fall camp. If he can continue to build on that progress, he could be in line to put up some monster numbers this season. His experience and ability give him a solid chance to make an impact right away, and as long as he stays healthy, he could end up taking the college football world by storm.
