The toughest stretch of Indiana's upcoming regular season schedule comes in the middle of October with back-to-back matchups against Ohio State and Michigan. But after those contests, the Hoosiers have a tricky matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Halloween night.
Sandwiched in-between a road trip to Ann Arbor and a home matchup against USC, there are several interesting scheduling dynamics in this looming meeting between the Hoosiers and Golden Gophers. All in all, this should be an interesting matchup to watch unfold.

Has Minnesota reached its peak under PJ Fleck?
Minnesota has been one of the most steady winners in the Big Ten under head coach PJ Fleck. Now entering his 10th season with the Gophers, Fleck owns an overall record of 99-66 to go along with an impressive 7-0 record in bowl games. Coming off back-to-back 8-win seasons, Fleck is looking to take the Minnesota to the next level in 2026.
Stephen Daley's return to Indiana is more meaningful than you think
As consistent as they've been, the Gophers haven't been able to break through onto the national scene during Fleck's tenure. A win over the defending National Champion Hoosiers would help with that effort, so Indiana needs to be ready for whatever Fleck and company bring.
The Gophers go as Drake Lindsey goes
Minnesota QB Drake Lindsey put forth a strong redshirt freshman season and is now poised to take a big step forward as a sophomore. In total, Lindsey completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,382 yards and 18 touchdowns to go along with 6 interceptions. Limiting Lindsey's efficiency will be a huge key for Indiana in this one, as Minnesota went a perfect 5-0 when he connected on at least 65% of his passes.
Minnesota's offensive line will be strong
Heading into his sophomore season, Lindsey will have the benefit of playing behind a veteran offensive line. Center Ashton Beers is back after starting every game last year, while guards Greg Johnson and Tony Nelson are also both returning. Tennessee transfer Bennett Warren is slated to take over the right tackle spot, while redshirt sophomore Nathan Roy is back at left tackle. Indiana's front-7 will need to wreak havoc against this veteran Gopher offensive line.
Can the secondary thrive without Koi Perich?
Minnesota's best defensive player last season was safety Koi Perich. After two stand-out seasons in the Twin Cities, Perich is now off to Oregon. Over the course of 26 games with Minnesota, Perich racked up 128 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 6 interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles. The Gophers have plenty of other returning players on the defensive side of the ball, but there's no denying that seeing Perich head to Oregon is a huge loss for this defense.
Indiana vs Minnesota score prediction
Indiana has not faced Minnesota over the first two seasons of the Cignetti era. Cignetti is an impressive 18-1 in Big Ten games at IU, while Fleck is 39-40 against Big Ten competition during his time at Minnesota.
The Hoosiers should be favored, but they shouldn't overlook the Gophers by any means.
