Indiana’s 2-0 start to the 2025-26 season with wins over Alabama A&M and Marquette have sparked the attention of media and voters across the nation. The Indiana men’s basketball team received forty-five votes in the latest AP poll, which was released on Monday.

After receiving just one vote in the preseason AP top-25, Indiana now ranked No. 28 based on the results of this week’s voting.

The others receiving votes were: Vanderbilt 31; Oregon 26; Baylor 25; Indiana 24; North Carolina State 23; Virginia 14; San Diego State 10; Ole Miss 8; USC 6; Missouri 5; Georgetown 5; Clemson 5; Saint Mary's 4; Georgia 4; Iowa 3; Ohio State 2; Texas 1; Kansas State 1 according to the USA Today Coaches Poll

The Others receiving votes: NC State 101, Oregon 98, San Diego St. 74, Texas 35, Ohio St. 23, Kansas St 13, Mississippi 11, Southern Cal 10, Missouri 8, Washington 7, Vanderbilt 7, Iowa 6, Boise St. 4, Mississippi St. 3, VCU 2, Virginia 2, Saint Mary's 2, Indiana 1, Oklahoma 1, Baylor 1.

Under first year coach Darian DeVries, the Hoosiers have dominated their first two opponents.  They beat Alabama A&M 98-51 to start the season, and beat Marquette 100-77 in Chicago on Sunday.

Six teams from the Big Ten are ranked this week:  Purdue (2), Michigan (6), Illinois (14), UCLA (15), Michigan State (17) and Wisconsin (24).

Here's the full AP Top 25:

1. Purdue (35)
2. Houston (16)
3. Florida (8)
4. UConn (2)
5. St. John's
6. Duke
7. Michigan
8. BYU
9. Kentucky
10. Texas Tech
11. Louisville
12. UCLA
13. Arizona
14. Arkansas
15. Alabama
16. Iowa State
17. Illinois
18. Tennessee
19. Kansas
20. Auburn
21. Gonzaga
22. Michigan State
23. Creighton
24. Wisconsin
25. North Carolina

Indiana has a favorable schedule Indiana returns to action on Wednesday when they host Milwaukee at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall a 7 PM E.T. The game will be broadcast on FS1.

The Hoosiers then take on Incarnate Word, Lindenwood, Bethune Cookman and Kansas State in a home stand before entering Big Ten Conference play. Kansas State is currently also receiving votes and IU also takes on two non-conference matchups in No. 9 Kentucky and No. 12 Louisville.

I think Indiana will be ranked 5-0 entering Big Ten Conference play and be ranked in the top 25 in one or two weeks time. The lack of major opponents is good for Indiana to gel with their new roster but it won't help early on in the rankings.
