In what was a down year for the Indiana baseball program, the Hoosiers ended with an overall record below the .500-marl for the first time since 2022. Ending the season with an overall mark of 23-31, Indiana also finished with a measly 9-21 mark in Big Ten play -- which is IU's worst record in conference play under head coach Jeff Mercer.
Despite a severely underwhelming season on the diamond, one Hoosier put forth a sensational season that continues to gain more and more recognition.
A feat over Shohei Ohtani makes Kyle Schwarber's All-Star nod even more impressive
Sophomore utility man Hogan Denny led the team with a stellar 1.099 OPS and was second on the Hoosiers with a .357 batting average. He also was tied for the team lead with 14 home runs and was second with 44 RBIs.
For his efforts, Denny earned First Team All-Big Ten honors following the season. Now, the honors continue to roll in for Denny as he prepares to represent Team USA.

The Mooresville, IN native is one of 28 players featured on the roster that will compete in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championships in Taiwan. He is the 7th player in IU baseball history to make the USA Collegiate National Team. He joins Devin Taylor as the only Hoosiers to make Team USA with Mercer at the helm of the Hoosier program.
After posting strong numbers across the board this past season, Denny still needed to earn his way onto the roster. He proved himself worth of a roster spot during a two-week training camp in North Carolina that spanned from late June to early July.
During scrimmages, Denny's versatility shined through. Throughout the course of training camp, he made appearances at catcher, third base, left field and right field, all while batting near the top of the order. He figures to see action at multiple positions in Taiwain, much like he did throughout the 2026 season with the Hoosiers. He wears No. 2 for Indiana, but will don No. 47 when playing for Team USA.
