Back in May, 4-star CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. was the highest-ranked player in Indiana's 2027 recruiting class. However, the Cincinnati native chose to abandon his pledge to the Hoosiers on May 18. It was a tough blow for Curt Cignetti and company, as Torbert is regarded as one of the top players in the state of Ohio and one of the best cornerbacks in the country.
Since his decommitment, Torbert has taken Official Visits to a handful of teams. When it came down to it, two Big Ten teams were locked in a heated recruiting battle for his services. The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines both went all-out to land Torbert, but only one was able to win out in the end.
Monsanna Torbert Jr. commits to Michigan following decommitment from Indiana
On Wednesday, Torbert announced his highly-anticipated decision live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel. When it came down to it, the 4-star prospect committed to Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines.
Indiana was technically still in the running, although it was pretty clear that the Hoosiers were out of the picture following Tobert's decommitment in May. Still, an IU hat was featured on the table when Torbert was announcing his commitment. To the dismay of Hoosier fans, he initially picked up the Indiana hat before tossing it aside and putting on the Michigan hat.
Furthermore, Torbert issued a statement of "I guess I'm the villain now, GLOBLUE," when announcing his commitment.

Torbert is ranked as the No. 12 cornerback and No. 102 overall player in the country, as well as the No. 6 overall prospect from the state of Ohio. The 5'11" 175-pound recruit joins a Michigan recruiting class that is currently ranked No. 10 in the country according to Rivals. He is the 20th commit to join Kyle Whittingham's 2027 class.
Monsanna Torbert Jr. picks Michigan over Ohio State and Indiana
Watching Torbert leave his commitment to Indiana in favor of joining Michigan stings. Instead of playing elsewhere, Torbert is now slated to line up against the Hoosiers at some point -- and possibly even multiple times -- with the Maize and Blue.
However, Hoosier football fans aren't going to lose any sleep over Torbert's decision to flip. If blue chip recruits don't want to play for Cignetti, so be it. Cignetti's winning resume in Bloomington speaks for itself, and IU football fans have plenty of faith in his leadership moving forward. He's proven that he doesn't need a roster full of blue chip prospects to win a National Championship.
Overall, Indiana's 2027 recruiting class is still in good shape. Current cornerbacks featured in IU's 2027 class include 3-star Ramir Harris-Dupree and 3-star Chris Bradley. The Hoosiers are holding a No. 29 ranking in the Rivals Recruiting Rankings. The class could get even better if Cignetti is able to seal the deal with local 5-star product Monshun Sales, who is ranked as the No. 1 WR in the 2027 recruiting class. With all of his Official Visits wrapped up, a decision could come from him at any time.
