While Curt Cignetti's teams at Indiana have been extremely reliant on the transfer portal, Cignetti is still focusing on bringing in well-rounded talent from the high school ranks.

When it comes to Indiana's 2027 recruiting class, Cignetti has secured 16 total commitments and has the Hoosiers ranked No. 29 in the country according to Rivals.

The Hoosiers are just outside the Top-25, but that could change in a hurry if Cignetti and company are able to land a commitment from one of the most coveted prospects in the country.

5-star WR Monshun Sales entering decision mode

The recruitment of 5-star WR Monshun Sales has been a closely-followed process from the very beginning. Sales is ranked as the No. 1 WR in the country for the 2027 class by 247Sports, and is heralded as the No. 8 overall player in the country by Rivals. His list of offers exceeds 30 teams, but he is now down to just a few finalists.

Those finalists include Indiana, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Texas, and Miami (FL). Sales has taken Official Visits to all of those programs over the last two months, and he is now entering decision-making mode.

Why picking Josh Hoover is looking like an even better portal win for Curt Cignetti

Cignetti has Indiana well-positioned to land the elite prospect, and if he is able to seal the deal, it would undoubtedly skyrocket the Hoosiers up in the national recruiting rankings. Currently sitting just four spots outside the Top-25, adding Sales to an already strong group of 2027 Hoosier commits could put IU into that elite territory.

Landing Monshun Sales would be historic on many levels for Indiana

Bringing Sales to Bloomington would also help the IU football program make history in more ways than one. Indiana has never had a 5-star high school commit in program history. Landing Sales can change that, and given his ties to The Hoosier State playing at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, it would be a cool sight to see him become Indiana's first 5-star high school commit.

Furthermore, landing Sales could help Indiana boast its best high school recruiting class in program history. The highest-ranked recruiting class in IU history came in 2022 with a No. 25 overall ranking. With the Hoosiers just outside the Top-25 as it stands, Cignetit already has IU knocking on the door to tie or break that record. Getting Sales in the mix would go a long way in aiding that effort.

Indiana's 2027 class is just about wrapped up, but landing Sales would be a major addition. He's arguably the biggest name who is still uncommitted at this time, and securing a commitment from him over the likes of Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Miami (FL), and Texas would just be another remarkable feat during Cignetti's tenure in Bloomington.
